Agree 100%. Easy fix for non original cars. Don't know what I will do if the one on my 69 Z goes south.

Somebody must test fuel pumps?

One would think the manufacturer would test on a regular basis?

If one had access to the appropriate tooling to un-crimp/crimp the steel housings to the cast bodies, it wouldn't be that hard to rebuild/restore these things. Same thing goes for diverter valves.

I must have good luck with AC Delco replacement pumps. Installed a 40987 on my 69 Z over 10 years ago with no issues yet. Installed a 40727 on my L34 Nova a couple years ago and so far, no issues. All the boxes have a 1995 date on them. So, i even bought some for spares off e-bay to have around. The OEM fuel pump on my L34 began leaking a couple years ago in part to the crap fuel we are using today, i think. I can see this being a problem in the future with the type of fuel we are forced to use today, so i thought i would stock up on a few AC Delco replacement pumps, long before reading this thread.

That's exactly what I did to repair the 1969 Z-28. I used one of my older (early 90's) NOS 40987 AC Delco pumps I had in my stock. Didn't want to let it go, but it's what I needed to do.

Just had another customer go through this with a rebuilt/restored OEM fuel pump on a `66 Corvette.

Hopefully he'll post up his findings in this thread.

Spoke with Eric yesterday about this . Went to fire my L79 Vette for the first time and watched the fuel push right past needle and seat and immediately shut it off . I pinched off fuel line and re fired to let carb run out of fuel . Checked fuel pressure and it hit the gauge at 10lbs ! Fuel pump is out and back to vendor who rebuilt for inspection .
