Default JOE LEPONE JR. PASSES ON

Former racer Joe Lepone Jr. succumbed to cancer on Sunday, July 12. The Pennsylvanian was part of the East Coast racing scene in the 1970s and '80s and drove for the late Bill "Grumpy" Jenkins in Pro Stock. In recent years he did a lot of Pro Mod work in the U.S. and overseas.

They had a moment of silence at Maple Grove Raceway this past Sunday, just before the National Anthem. Roger the track announcer said a nice little bio about Joe before the mos.

I remember Joe hanging out at K&G back in the late 70's. He went to my HS but graduated a few years ahead of me. Very sad, and a very nice guy RIP....

Joe certainly was a driver for Grump, but when not behind the wheel yanking the Lenco levers, he took the time to talk to a young drag racing addict on several occasions. Back then, the "Toys" would have to be roped off in the pits to keep the onlookers out of the way. I grew up watching my dad race, so I knew when and when NOT to ask questions. Joe was ALWAYS cordial to me and if he didn't remember me from the previous time I talked with him, he sure acted like he did! R.I.P. good man.
