You beat me to it. C'mon, numbers matching means that it has to be original

I think you will find that "numbers matching" means that the casting numbers and dates are correct.... and not necessarily the "original" engine....

Yes, I agree but many years ago, matching numbers did mean original. Now with the advent of restamps that has been going on for decades, the meaning of the phrase has changed. Everytime I watch an auction on TV or read certain publications, the talking heads always define matching #s as original which only makes things worse. Of course anyone with knowledge knows better but if the hobby is to stand the test of time, this BS has to be addressed IMHO.

I go with the term "born-with" to describe the engine that a car left the factory with.

So, I guess you have the born-with engine, and the car has the matching numbers engine.

I am going to try and contact Russo and Steele this week when the offices are open. Apparantly that was the last public auction this car was at (2008).

I would imagine they might be less than thrilled to hook you up with a customer that you intend to inform as having a restamped engine. Not that they won't oblige, they just might not be enthusiastic.

(Maybe practice your technique by calling up the husbands of old girlfriends and let them know you have first hand knowledge that their wives weren't virgins when they wed....just sayin....)

Good luck.
