Those pics brought tears to my eyes. My mother was born on Nov. 11, 1918, the day the armistice was signed ending WWI. It was initially called Armistice Day. Either her mother or an aunt wanted to name her Armistice, but it was finally decided maybe that wasn't such a good idea, so she was named Lillian. She was always quite proud to have been born on Veterans Day. She passed away this past Jan. Happy Veterans Day to all you guys and gals. May we never forget our veterans and all the wars or conflicts they fought in.

Proud to say that I live in one of the greatest communities on earth, where folks, young and old alike, come together as one to honor out veterans. Where everyone stood for our National Anthem, and loudly recited the Pledge of Allegiance. The presentation of the colors by our Boy Scouts, patriotic songs by the school choirs and speeches by a few of our youth, reminded me that there really is a bright hope for tomorrow. A hearty salute to our veterans and a thank you to our school and community for such a moving Veteran’s Day program.

I made the short drive to TAHOMA NATIONAL CEMETARY in Maple Valley,WA today.
Placed a small American Flag in front of my fathers gravestone.
Sol Sharin served in in France during WW2, wounded in the Battle of the
Hurtegon Forest, he earned a Purple Heart & Silver Star.

I'm certainly no hero, got drafted on my 20th BD, served one year in Viet Nam
as a Helicopter Mechanic.

Thanks for posting those pics Pete.I had the privilege of touring Omaha and Juno beach in 2010.Also went to the U.S.cemetery above Omaha Beach and a couple of Canadian ones a little further inland. It's a little surreal walking along the beaches looking at the bunkers and gun emplacements knowing what went on there and watching people sunning themselves and having a good time.My uncles landed on Juno on D-Day,they were combat engineers, fought their way thru France,Holland and into Germany and came home. And my father who served in the South Pacific during WW2 in the Canadian Navy.I thank you and all Vets for your service and our freedom!
