Default L78 Nova Smog

Hoping someone can shed some light on this:

I recently purchased a L78 Nova with a TH400 that has a smog system on this. I am wondering if there are any companies out there that rebuild these? I have a nasty wobble on the pulley and am wondering if would be better to rebuild the one i have or buy a re-pop and keep the one I have in a box.

Also, is there a true way of knowing whether the car originally had smog or not? I see a lot of different thoughts on this.

thank you

Post 69 L78 Nova...

Welcome to the L78 Nova family

There are some folks out there who can help repair the pump if needed..Bill Hodel comes to mind...and there are probably a few more. I would double check to be sure the pulley is securely fastened..maybe the attaching bolts are loose??

Also, the smog pumps can be 'modified' so that they don't function...but, give the appearance of working...just another option.

Regarding your question about the smog being original...all 1969 L78 Novas had the smog system...no exceptions.

Please post some photos...

If it's a true L-78,it came with A.I.R. originally from the factory.
I'd rebuild the system you have,if it's all original.
Or Contact Bill Hodel in Massillon,Ohio to rebuild/refinish your smog system for you.

Check the pulley itself to see if it is a repop.
Many of the early repops were known to not run true.

It was a bent pulley! Had Bill H do a restoration on the pump. OMG does it look beautiful. Thank you all for the advice. I would highly recommend Bob for these rebuilds! I am so impressed!
