Re: Pontiac T-37, and GT-37
[ QUOTE ]
OK, I don't know much about those cars, BUT I do know a guy who had one. It had BOTH emblems on it, T-37 and GT-37. He couldn't get ALL the same emblems, so had to sub. the others for the car. Never did find out the difference or what one was correct. The guy who owned it a while back is a friend. I do know it was a 1971 version T/GT-37. Car was/is BLACK on BLACK bench seat 4 speed car. Factory 455 HO with 4.11's. Car is GM Canada documented 1971 455 HO, M22, 4.11 12 bolt car. NICE CAR and different. [/ QUOTE ] Very rare car, I would like to see documentation on the 4.11 rear...3.55 was the numerically highest gear available and have never heard of a factory car built with any thing higher. FWIW, in '70-'71, the GT-37 was an option to the base T-37. Kinda like "the poor man's GTO". I believe all GTO engine options were available for the GT-37. Either way, it's still a very cool car and would love to park it next to my '72 HO WW5 car. Mike |

Re: Pontiac T-37, and GT-37
I will look into it. I recall that my first car, 1968 GTX rag CLONE and I want to run this guy as everyone was telling me how fast this car was, BUT never beside anyone! I had a 440 Hemi 4sp. with Dana and 4.10's and L60 X 15 rear tires. The GT-37 had skinny small tires and kept complaining when he'd take the car on the highway as it was revving, and those Pontiacs don't like the RRRR's. I still see this guy all the time and will ask just to make sure next time.
Yes it was and is a cool car, in great shape. John |

Re: Pontiac T-37, and GT-37
Total number of '71 GT-37, 455 HO cars built is 54...no other breakdown is available. The current guesstimate is 34 stick and 20 auto cars. Being a Canadian car and Starlight black would make this one rare Pontiac.
Here's a little info... http://gtoalley.com/gt37.html Boy, I would REALLY like to see the docs on this car. Mike |

Re: Pontiac T-37, and GT-37
Our '72 Lemans Sport came from the Oshawa factory with the 400, M20 4 speed, and 3.55 posi 12 bolt rearend. According to the brochure, the car could have been ordered with a 455. I installed a '70 455, the 360 hp version advertised at 500 ft/lb torque. With a 230 degree cam, .480 lift, and headers, the car is considerably quicker than our L78 4.10 geared Chevelle. You just might want to have your 440 running well into the 12s, if this guy is as quick as people think. It would be an interesting race to see. Those old Pontiacs are pretty responsive to tuning and are pretty easy to work on as well.

Re: Pontiac T-37, and GT-37
Well, my 440 WAS fast for the day. FIRST pass ever down the 1/4 when I was 16 was a 13.61, then 13.60 next pass. Street tire thru muffler, back in about 1983. Car did run 12.60 slick open headers. I would have beat him pretty good back then, but after I made a pass in front of him, he wouldn't go.

Re: Pontiac T-37, and GT-37
The ultimate T-37 455 HO. Ran 11:30s in 1971 with a dealer installed 4.10 gear.
It is set up to run easy, wheel lifting, consistent 12.00s today, so no roll bar required. |

Re: Pontiac T-37, and GT-37
Here's that link I've posted before to a site w/ T-37 & GT-37 info & production figures..
Bit of a dickaround getting the link to work as it lands on some pics no matter what page you try linking but look at the bottom of the page and click on the GT-37 link.. Not quite sure what they've got going there w/ production figures either...it seems to only list hardtops, not the post cars??. http://images.google.ca/imgres?imgurl=ht...6lr%3D%26sa%3DN And where'd that lad go who posted here a few times...seemed like a good guy and was an original GT-37 owner...from Alaska maybe?. ~ Pete |

Re: Pontiac T-37, and GT-37
[ QUOTE ]
T 37 is worth nothing and a GT 37 is worthy.. Not GTO worthy but worth saving.. [/ QUOTE ] This is NOT true. The T-37 was the replacement for the Tempest. Equipped with the GTO's engine, from the 400 to the 455 and the 455HO, they are VERY rare and, in Pontiac circles, quite desirable. The GT-37 was Pontiac's response to the Road Runner, and it could be thought of as the successor to the stillborn ET from 1969. Engines started with a lo-po 350-2 and went up from there. |
