1968 CAMARO Z28 or L78 4053 DZ HOLLEY CARBURETOR 3923289 DATED 772
I have had this 1968 4053 Holley carburetor that is dated 772 in storage for years waiting for the right car to use it on but that is not going to happen so I have decided to sell it. The stamp on the on the main body look original but I am not sure how original the rest of the carb is. I know the carb is missing some of the choke linkage. Please email with any questions. $600.00

NICE piece! I'm pretty sure that is the earliest dated 4053 I've ever seen, and it's definitely an early style casting.
(does have the wrong base on it though, and the metering blocks appear to be incorrect as well--sorry, just thought you'd want to know) |

Thank you for the information Eric. The last thing I want is to mislead somebody with the wrong information again. Can you tell me what are the numbers of the metering blocks that should be on this carb?

5583 front and 4519 rear.
The correct base will have #172 throttle blades, a 3/8" PCV tube coming out of the passenger side rear of the base, a 3/16" tube coming out under the front float bowl for the choke pull-off, and a 1/4" tube coming out of the passenger side front as shown below: |

I don't have concrete info on the suffixes for Holleys nor Qjets so I can't comment on that. The stamping looks good from the pic and it is an early casting without the vertical ribs on either side of the choke tower.

Eric, The base plate does have the 172 throttle blades and it is the early base plate without the extra metal on the side that you would see on a service replacement part but it does not have the 3/8" PCV nipple. From what I can read the metering block numbers are 6271 and 1003. Thank you for your help, considering the two opinions offered yours is the only one that matters.

92646,
I couldn't help but to comment about this date. I have had a near mint 610 intake, dated 7.31.67, complete with all accessories, for at least thirty years on my shelf. I asked Jerry M. about this not long ago. 1968's were being built in August. A few Vin's that would fit around this that I have researched are 300471, 300911, 303924, etc. I forgot what weeks in Aug. the cars that I have personally seen built in Aug. of 67, but they are definitely out there. Would anybody would be interested in trading this carb towards a late 1968 4053DZ carb for a 1969 Z/28 built the 3rd week of December 1968. I will pay additional for the right carb.
