Default replacing inner windo fuzzies 69 Camaro

I bought a very nice pair of original front door panels. One has had the window fuzzy replaced. They used 1/8 inch pop rivets instead of the original staples.

I am replacing the other window fuzzy with a perfect used one I had saved from an old door panel.

Removed the staples, drilled a couple holes in the new door panel to accept the staples. But.... I can't get the staples bent down hard enough to hold the inner fuzzy in place tightly. Tried needle nose pliers, screwdrivers, c-clamps and vice grip c-clamps. Can't get a good enough bite.

I don't have a giant metal piercing stapler.

What do you guys do? Use pop rivets as was done on the other side?

The repair on the other side doesn't look too bad, but if one looks very closely, you can see the rivets.

Thanks for any help.
Lynn

Just me, but I wouldn't use rivets. I did mine a long time ago, so I'm not positive how I got them tight, but I think I used a small bar against the staples, and a pair of 6" channel locks.

I drill the holes for the staples. I then use a small vice grip and a small piece of wood (used as a spacer, to not damage the w strip).

I install the staple in the holes. Lay the small piece of wood over the staple and vice grip the whole thing together. I then bend over (about 1/2 way) the staple by hand. I then remove the vice grips and wood, and finish bending the ends of the staples over, one side at a time. It is tedious. But the results look perfect.

Basically the same way I did them. I used the original holes clamped the weatherstrip in place then drilled the weather strip to match the old holes.
Used stainless tig wire and bent them over using needles nose pliers then crimped them tight using a set of wide mouth vice grips, it worked great. Finally I painted the wire flat black. (the orignals were also painted when I removed them.)
