Well there's the answer. I bet the search is on in Oklahoma. One of those wagons would be a neat find.

John great to see you here.

Ok John, You are my new hero. Kind of guys we need. These cars may have never shown up anywhere on paper, but obviously they did exist! Probably was ordered as a heavy duty option and not high performance. Long live the small block!

John,
Welcome to the site and thanks for the great description. That is what makes this site so cool! Your first post and you bring a lot with you. I think I can speak for the rest of the members that we would all LOVE to hear more stories about the assembly line process. I would bet if a thread were started, it might quicky even surpass Darren's thread in number of pages. (sorry Darren)

Welcome aboard!
Rick

No 327 350Hp in any 66 Chevelle. Not Available. In 65,67 and 68 Yes. But for some unknown Reason not in 66.

My understanding is that in 1966, because the Chevelle was debuting with it's BIG BLOCK 396. ( 65 Z-16 was sort of the testing of the waters for this ) All 66 SS Chevelles would be getting as a Base engine; 396/325hp. This was Chevy's big dog so ta speak, so it didn't seem to make sense for them to sell a 66 Chevelle L-79 which would essentially have more HP than their New Base model SS. So, the L-79 was not, to my knowledge, released for Chevelles in 1966, but then was offerred in 1967 Chevelles.

This reminds me of the 4 door, 4 speed 409 Biscayne that was at Barrett Jackson this past January...according to the description, it was used by a Texaco employee as his business car in the oil fields...

Here's the description of the car:

Saw that car at the Bob's Big Boy cruise night in Burbank last fall..owner had all the original Texaco field log books in the trunk to boot..

AHH you California guys, how can you stand it out there? Don't you ever get sick of the weather, the scenery, the blue Pacific, the cars, the old drag strips, the drive-in-car hops, the rust free sheetmetal, and especially some of the babes, not to take anything away from the Napa Valley winery's, and the giant red woods, even Alcatraz! You guys are killin me. I hated it when I was out there!

Sam jump in the Z and pick me up. Let's go to In-N-Out or Pink's for lunch. On the way back we can pick up a chili burger from Tommy's for Pritchard.

John, thanks for posting that. I was going to try to post that info as a secondhand source but I would have messed it up.

John already wrote a little about the assembly process.
