69 RS/SS X22 D80 Blk/Blk Deluxe - 375hp Iron Head - 4spd - Tach Gauges Console plus etc..., #'s ,
Mint restored bottom to top .
$8500

69 RS/Z28 X33 D80 was either Orange or White/Orange Dogbite - Endura - JL8 RWD - Cowl Induction - Tach Gauges Console plus etc.., #'s ,
Mint restored bottom to top .
$10,500

I was a serious candidate on the Black SS.
Shuffled my feet for half a day too long - lost out.

Thought the Z was too far overpriced.
Didn't even test drive it.
Sorry i cant remember if it was White w/ Orange stripes - or Orange w/ White stripes.

Same owner , both cars in same place at same time.
"Big John" Akes of High Point NC if anyone remembers him.

Prices kept climbing up through 92-93 , then things started leveling out / softening for a pretty good while.

I'm guessing 1992 price on that Pace-Vert in good used-unrestored condition was around 25-30k zone - full retail.

PS - ironically , the Faktry Black SS i missed , the guy who bought it immediately color changed it to GarnetRed as tribute to his former car in his high school days.
Just the opposite of what happened to the stolen Garnet car going to Black.
Baron,

Good story. That sounds about right. Although I don't know what condition the pace car was in when he first got it, the price does seem appropriate for the time period at $16,500.

Pretty crazy when we think about where they once were and where they have come price-wise!

For Real !
That $8500 RS/SS in 1988 - would have brought $25,000+ just by 1992.
Prices were climbing so fast i was knocked right out of the Market.

And what was the cost to restore a car back during that time period? It sure wasn't $100,000+ like it is today.

X2.
However, There's a big difference between 1988 and 2018 restorations, right?

You guys are right in most all respects, of course.

This is Pud's space and i apologize.
But one more bit on those last 2 cars I looked at -

After goose chasing for over a year - i had called it quits on the 69 Camaro quest , about 2 months earlier.

Taking an alternate route from Gboro to HighPoint to visit friends - spotted this pair in the driveway of a real nice house.
with For Sale signs.

They were absolutely the 2 nicest 69 Camaro's i had ever seen anywhere.
Was in total shock basically , but trying to look calm.
Frame-Off quality top to bottom , but not quite equal to Todays Concourse , to be on the safe side.

Would have needed another paycheck yet to get to 8500 and then be flat broke.
Lunchtime next day - made the call to pull the trigger on the Black Car.
Missed the Bus
Closed the Book

Not even close! The 70 Judge convertible I bought & sold in 1997 got restored in 99 and eventually showed up on e-bay about 7 or 8 years ago. I remember the conversation on the boards was that he must have been "buried" in the car because the restoration must have cost so much - he called me and we laughed. His restoration cost $38,000!

Default Resto Update

Started work right away on the L78 Pace Car...

Had the sub-frame powder coated and the rear end painted. Installed the rear and working on the sub-frame install next.

It's coming along!
