There is a 1968 Chevelle SS396 sitting near my parents house. It has been sitting since the mid 80's and the last time i took a look at it there was a tree growing though it. The story goes that the engine blew up and the owners pulled it out but that is as far as they got. The rumor is that there is a fresh 396 sitting in there garage. Why the car is not inside the garage is anyones guess.

I remember seeing that picture on the "Cars In Barns" website. Glad to see someone saved it from that field.

there is a local law here about cars without plates and green slime running down the back of your home; both strictly prohibited, as are clothes lines in the front yard.

the only rotting hulks I can see are pumpkins and squash.

I just came home from Long Island for the holidays. I took the train into New York one day, and from the train I saw quite a few nice 60s cars sitting rusting in tightly packed storage lots, and behind buildings. It really is sad. We don't have that type of thing very much up here in Maine, but one day I was out driving when I spotted this. 67 SS in code M royal plum paint and black bench seat interior. The house looked deserted so I decided to poke around a bit. Under the rotted hood sat the numbers matching engine, complete up to the air cleaner, and inside, all the four speed stuff is there up to even the original boot and knob. Only options were tinted windsheild and 4 speed. The plates were last registered in 84, and it is currently sitting on the crager rims, all 4 tires are rotted. The body is suprisingly great, with no rot in the doors, fenders of quarters, just the hood. I hate to see it sitting there uncovered!! I've knocked on the door everytime I go by, but nobodys ever there, so maybe I should check with the town office on the status of the place. Until than, it will sit through the rain and snow. I don't think it's going anywhere anytime soon, unless that anywhere is in my garage!
See the attatchment
Steve
