This is my 2003 Yukon XL which has been used to deliver a lot of the building supplies to the building:




It has also earned the privilege of parking in the PRO lot at Home Depot:



On Friday Sept 2 Lloyd and I went for more supplies, we spotted another tradesman's van in the lot and felt compelled to share:



Not sure what business he was in, the color chart may indicate he is a painter. Noteworthy accessories are the coat hangers, mops and the climbing rope around the mirror. the dash had about 7 years worth of receipts, coffee cups and who knows what else. The appearance of the van would indicate someone who doesn't give a sh%t. However the van appeared to have been recently painted (with a roller) and the wheels had new paint. Couldn't resist the photo.

We did get some work done on Friday, completed the TYvek after we did some rot repairs to the lower wall and commenced with the metal cladding on the front East wall:




Our friend Mike P volunteered to do some painting on the weekend and finished the West wall just before sunset:



Making use of the good weather, we are focused on getting as much outside completed this fall and finish up the inside stuff when we lose the daylight and good weather.

Wow, and it's a Quadrasteer equipped 3/4 ton example! Have you run into any issues with the unique parts for that rear steer system (yet)?

Re 2003 Yukon XL
Truck has been very reliable. Nothing related to Quadrasreer has given any problem.
Had an inner carrier bearing fail at 80,000 miles, now has 120,000. Bearing failure caused by dealer putting wrong fluid in at 60,000 mile service, could not prove their neglegence. Had all bearings replaced at a cost of $2600.00. Special tools and some specific seals required, vehicle at dealer for three weeks awaiting parts during GM bankruptcy period in 2010.

While Paul was travelling I though I would tackle a small project still on the &quot;we'll get around to that&quot; list. The fire door between the hall to the front office area and the warehouse needed rehanging and a cedar surround added.

The fire door and steel frame were hastily hung by someone lacking carpentry skills and seemingly very little patience. Although the steel door and welded frame were in good condition they were barely hanging on with only a few fasteners and were way out of plumb and level.


I started by re-framing the top of the door and adding some blocking to the vertical rough-in studs so the frame could be reoriented plumb and level. I also added some plywood spacers around the outer door frame to allow the surround cedar planking to be slid under the frame edge for a more tailored look.



As the few remaining screws were undersized I though I would use larger torx head fasteners for added strength and to give the frame an industrial look much like the welded support frame on the adjacent Wet Room entrance. And yes, the door frame is now level and plumb...



Vertical cedar planks were then cut to size, routed for overlap joints and the edges eased for a better ascetic. A filler strip was added under the right side plank to account for the difference between the block wall recess and the door frame. I made a header molding by ripping a strip of cedar plank on the table saw and routing the edge with a roundover bit. All the pieces were then dry fitted, disassembled then stained and finish installed with nails and glued in place.


All that's left to do is paint the door frame and door - nice to get that one off the list
