No. 350/295 HP was standard with 396/350 HP and 396/375 HP the optional engines.

If you wanted the L79 327/325 HP engine you could only get it in the Nova, not the SS. 1968 was the last year for the L79. The 327/275 HP was also an optional engine for the Nova.

Wink 68 Nova Engine Options...

The L35 396/325hp was offered in the Chevelle and Camaro, but never the Nova. As mentioned the L48 350/295hp, was the std. V8 for the Nova SS....the big block choices came along in the late spring, but very few were produced.

The sleeper was of course the L79, even though it didn't have the aluminum intake and Holley any more, it was still a real powerhouse. That combo with an M-21 and a 4.10 rear ate most big blocks for lunch. A lot of my friends who had an L79 equipped car often added the factory solid lifter cam, Holley with a Winters manifold and headers along with some better tires and traction upgrades...they were fun to watch.

Still one of the best combos Chevy ever made..

Always interesting to note that Jenkins 68 L78 Nova was actually ordered by Bill as a L79 but he saw I guess an advantage to rules running the L78 so it was changed. Remember it running with the std. hood and not the SS hood.
Oh the drag racing wars back then!
