Observing many original battery hold downs originals were dip painted in semi-gloss primer. My biggest find was a good friends Dad worked for the railroad and many years ago he gave me a box of parts his Dad had collected over years back in the late 60's and early 70's. In that box were several battery hold downs just as they came from the factory. Reason for picking them up along the tracks were people would sneak in the rail yard and steal batteries and dropped/threw the hold downs on the ground. It was a great find! I have not noted any originals with any rubberized coating from the factory. I've also noted many are stamped with a "K" or "C" but also have the original off our 67 Corvette and it has no stamp. There were service replacements (very old NOS parts) with the correct look but the shape is just a little different. Nothing that anyone could spot attached to car but side by side some differences assuming due to being a different supplier.
Here is one of those originals found along the rail tracks 50 +/- years ago.

Every original hold down i've inspected looks identical to the black example Chick posted. They've been semi gloss as well. I think i posted some shots of my 5k mile 68 chevelle battery clamp finish on the site.

I agree with Steve. On every original one, the round spot comes up short where the bolt hole is. The ones that go all the way up are not correct. The pen points to the area. Also the back lip is really thin compared to newer ones.

Good point! Guess that is why we should never make a determination of color sheen by a picture alone. Here is the same clamp taken at the same timeframe but the other side. Many parts were dipped in the semi-gloss primer used at main assembly. Agree in the picture it does look on the gloss side but sunlight, etc. can also play a part on how a picture looks sheen wise.
Here are some other pics I have from examining other clamps. This one I soaked in EvapoRust some years back to better see paint appearance. And a couple more to add to the mix.
