Default 1970 Caprice - Value??

I am looking at this 1970 Caprice and due to lack of knowledge on these BIG cars, I would like some guidance.

Below is a quick summary of the car.

1. Completely 100% original panel and obviously paint.....Harvest Gold. The body has very few scratches/dents and no rust holes. The vinyl roof is good underneath as well.
2. Completely 100% original interior.....and it is mint.
3. Completely 100% original drive line (350/300HP engine, 350 Turbo and 12 bolt) with some alterations. Motor completely rebuilt, 10:1 compression running pump gas, reworked stock heads/intake, pertronix, hydraulic cam, Q Jet (basically 100% stock appearing). Transmission was completely rebuilt with a 2200 rpm stall converter with a shift kit and completely rebuilt 12 bolt posi with 3:73. The Caprice pulls hard like a bull, running 13.7 in 1/4 mile! And he loves to crush all the smart ass kids in their Mustangs from light to light. He just giggles telling you the story.
4. Complete dual exhaust with exhaust manifolds.
5. South Carolina car with all documentation.....in other words, 100% mint and bullet proof.
6. Chrome is mint, all the tint glass is good and the complete front end has been rebuilt.
7. The only issue is the AC is not working.....not 100% sure why......typical.
8. Everything else on the car works as it should.


What are your thoughts on the car?

On a scale 1 to 10, what is the desirability?

What are the good, the bad and the ugly pints about this car?

Give me an idea what you think this may be worth?

I have two B-body Biscaynes. you either love the big cars or hate them. I love them. I had a 1970 Impala 100% original with 916 miles on it that I sold almost two years now and I got 26K for it. Blackcherry with Black deluxe interior tinted glass all around, no a/c just p/s and brakes 350 with a turbo 400. A real survivor.

Paul, almost 3 years ago now I bought my neighbor's 67 Impala 2d sport coupe 327 with a glide. Bench seat, Bolero Red, black interior and black vinyl top. NON SS Car.

I was not real sure about pulling the trigger with buying this car but due to the circumstances around it I could not pass on it. My neighbor was the original owner, had the POP and other original goodies for the car. The car was unrestored, original, low mileage, #s matching and not driven in the inclement weather.

For the price he offered it to me I could not pass it up. I also did not intend on buying it to flip it due to my relationship with my neighbor. But I have to tell you after buying it and driving it I absolutely love this car. I have always been a Nova/Chevelle guy and was not certain myself on the big car thing.

I get tons of compliments on the car at local shows and you don't see many of these around. People mainly drove and junked them. I call it the "rolling red couch" because it is so comfortable and fun to drive. And I hate to say it but sometimes I have more fun with this car than my Nova or Chevelle.... My Wife and I will jump in it on some summer nights and go get ice cream in it..

Sounds like a cool car your looking at there.. I think you would be happy... One thing I would do if you bought this car is "86" that steering wheel. It's obviously not correct.

As stated above, that NK4 steering wheel was not available ‘till 1971. And that one looks like a later 70’s steering wheel.

Thats a 78-81 Z/28 rope steering wheel. The center caps are wrong and those tires look too big for the wheels. I prefer more of a stock look, but thats just me. The 454 cars typically bring more money, but nothing wrong with what you have. I like what I see

L72 - I agree with you. If I pull the trigger I am hoping to really like the change from my traditional 69 Camaro.

Lee Stewart - thanks for the prices although they were a little depressing....lol.

Jonesy - with you 100%, caps need to go and the wheels need to go back to a 15x7, not 15x8.

Roeville - yes, the steering wheel is "goodbye"....maybe a black comfort grip or the plain old standard black wheel.

Mr. Chevy (Rich) - you made me keen on the big car program and who know's, I just might really like the car. And yes again, say goodbye to that wheel.


One last question, aside from the auction info. what do you all think the Caprice is worth in todays market?

Probably less than what it cost to restore it.

This are only a few 69-72 that recently closed on ebay, this one is unrestored but with buckets/console similar colors, and it got zero bids at 5k starting. I really like the buckets/console in these.

This one is a 71, but restored and it sold for 7500.00, however it is a 4 door, and it has a 396 in it.

Four sold in the 5100 to 10500 range on ebay (the 10,500 was a single bid so Im not sure it actually sold)

Based on those numbers $6,000-$10,000 id say
