POP shows a Zone office as the first owner
Saw a POP where the owner was listed as a zone office. What would be the purpose in this?

Unfortunately I don't have the POP for my car, but the NCRS report showed it being delivered to the Cleveland Zone Office and had no dealership listed.

There's a GM Canada documented 1966 L79 Chevy II 100 two door sedan in the Canadian L79 Registry that shows the dealer as GM Canada Product Stock-Oshawa, Ontario. It was built on July 5, 1966, the final day of 1966 production at Oshawa. It was the 10th last Chevy II off the assembly line and likely the last L79 built in Canada. Appears GM Canada wanted to keep it, although it eventually ended up in private hands, but is still in southern Ontario. Unfortunately, it's provenance got lost over the years. The L79/M20/12 bolt drivetrain was replaced with a 350CID/M21/10 bolt, color changed from E code Royal Mist Metallic (Danube Blue in the U.S.) with blue interior to a light green with black upholstery. In 1966, there were only 133 V/8 Chevy II two door sedans built in Canada. We estimate fewer than two dozen were L79s. A car GM Canada let get away.

The green Pilot LS6 Chevelle that is now in the "Brothers" collection was sold to Chevrolet Tarrytown, Boston Zone, Tarrytown, NY. It was then delivered to MacMoran Chevrolet in Boston where a Chevrolet zone rep Ray Pasternak then took delivery of the car. He drove it up and down the east coast for several weeks and was then sold as a used car to another Chevrolet dealership. Often times when sold to zone offices they were used as salesman introduction vehicles.

I have dozens of examples of Pontiac invoices showing the dealer being one of the many Pontiac Zone Offices. A zone car was usually loaded up with options, and as stated above they were typically driven by a Zone Rep for a few months. The Zone Rep may use the car to visit various Pontiac dealers in the area to promote the specific model. Because these cars were frequently loaded with options it gave dealers the opportunity to see various option groups, engine options, or models that they may not typically see. In some cases the car may be used in parades, auto shows, and other promotions.
When the Zone Rep was finished with the car (the car wasn't actually sold yet) it would be sold to a dealer and a second invoice was cut. Because the car already had some miles on it, there was a 5% discount applied. The dealer would then sell the car to a customer. Mike

The concept of the car being shown around to dealers make sense for this particular car. It is a Red/Red L72 convertible Vette with side pipes headrests PS, PW. Somewhat loaded.
