We always have prime and ultra rare Mopars at the Muscle Car and Corvette Nationals show. Today we are presenting one of the rarest, most expensive and highest optioned '71 Hemi Challenger R/T's ever built. And to make it even more interesting, it was sold new in another country and has never spent any time in the U.S. In fact, the new owner purchased it overseas, and he lives in British Columbia..

This may be the most significant Mopar find of the year, and it will be shown for the very first time in the U.S. in November at MCACN in our Mopar Shaker Hood Invitational display.

The SE (Special Edition) was a one year only option/model: 1970. This as you can see is a 1971 . . . ??

In 1971 the SE was no longer a stand-alone model with a distinctive VIN sequence. In 1971 it was just another option. If I recall correctly, it was called the "formal roof" option.

The car also has the uber-rare, elastomeric bumpers.

Steve, the rubber bumpers are a different code for Challengers. Begins with M, I think.

Correct, but the option package itself is listed that way in the code book.

It may be, but even in the image you posted above, I now see it shows M73. Strange!

A21 and A22 were for the Challenger while M71 and M73 were for the Challenger R/T

Oh, that's interesting.....why would they do that? I realize it may have been an R/T thing initially, later to expand for regular Challengers (I think?), but why different? May be a trim/molding issue?

Some trivia that I didn't learn till recently: For the Barracuda A22, the rear panel was painted black like on a 'Cuda. I know this to be true for red cars and can only assume it was true for the other colors that became available. Seems the '71 Challenger had a similar default.
