Default Chrome Preservation

We recently had to replace our exhaust system. It’s an optional Chevrolet factory “Turbo Upgrade Kit” for a 2016 Chevy Sonic RS. It’s a dealer installed option and has been on the car for 4 months. It has chrome tailpipes and now one of them is starting to split on the edge. It’s probably being accelerated by the moisture that collects at that point on the tailpipe. The tail pipes and muffler are one assembly. It’s made by Borla for GM. We contacted Borla about it and they said that it shouldn’t do that at all. So, they actually sent us a brand new complete system, from head-pipe all the way back as warranty replacement. Shipped free too! Great customer service! So now we have the whole new system, but I’m hesitating about putting it on right away because I don’t want this tailpipe to potentially split like the one that’s on the car now. Can something be done to treat or seal chrome so it won’t happen again? Any suggestions? Thanks

Maybe some easy to apply wax?

Adam's used to have Quick Sealant, but discontinued it.

There's a chance you did nothing wrong with the original and it was poorly prepped before it was chromed.

Reminds me of the signature:

Thanks for the suggestion Rick. I was kinda thinking that way too, but I thought that the brain-trust here might have a idea of something that I didn't know or think about. I was actually thinking of having the tips rechromed to put on another layer. I'm not sure what it would cost.

bluel78 - I agree. I'm sure it wasn't due to anything we did. The splitting was on the lip where it's rolled over. I wonder if the forming of the tips was done after the chrome job. I'm sure that would stress the finish, along with expansion and contraction of the metal and the condensation dripping out the tip.

Kurt S - Nice one!!
