Default 70 454 Camaro

So I just noticed this AD in April 70 Super Street Cars magazine... I recall the option being listed in the assembly manual. I imagined that the 454 option had been cancelled long before then. Anyone know when it was cancelled? LS-6 Chevelle production must have started way before April ( I assume). If the Camaro option was not cancelled prior, why were none yet made ?

Don't use the April 1970 date as a guide. There was a long lead time for magazines - at least three months.

John Z. DeLorean took over Chevrolet on Feb. 12, 1969. It was his job to turn the red ink into black. One of the first things he did was "gut" the ultra high performance engine options on Chevrolet cars due to the ever increasing premiums and pressure from the insurance industry. 4 cars were cancelled by the Summer of 1969:

1970 LS7 Corvette
1970 LT2 Corvette
1970 LJ2 Corvette
1970 LS6 Camaro SS

I have a very good friend that ordered one of these 465HP '70 Camaros when they were first offered but it was from a different dealership than shown here. He even still has the dealer invoice showing as such but these cars were obviously stillborn before they even hit the pavement and the car arrived at the dealership with an L78 instead.
