Yes, they were closed until the late 69s. I believe they went to open chamber in the low 20,000 vin numbers.

Thats true, 20,000 to 21,000 range. All open chamber L88's for 1969 have a different build code than a closed chamber, so it's easy to tell when looking at one. LO is a 4 speed version, I was lucky enough to judge two LO coded L88's at a Chapter NCRS event held in Ausitn over the weekend. One with 2,200 miles.

Thanxs guys!!! I had a guy trying to tell me that they used a different head in 67 & 68 {open chamber}I had never heard of any 7 or 8 heads being open chamber.

I understand that the '69 L88 that Beare Motors sold had closed chambered heads. Open chambers came later in the year. It was a rolling update as the open chambered heads became available.

Chevelleless after 46 years......but we did find a low mileage, six speed, silver 2005 Corvette. It will just have to do for now. |

The open chamber design headed L-88's started to appear after the 1969 strike, about June 16th '69.
