Carolina Machine Engines
I want a new 383 short block to replace the 302 in my Camaro, so I was doing a little searching on the 'net for one and this one popped up on eBay. Has anyone had any interaction with Carolina Machine Engines? The short block pictured is newer and they said they could build me a similar one from an older block so I can use most of my current parts as I want a short block I can swap the heads, intake, carbs, etc. over to so my car is a little more drivable.
The 302 I have now just doesn't move out until you wind it to the moon and that's just not practical for what I want the car for. I'd also probably do a new cam but I'll cross that bridge when I come to it. Appreciate any info you can provide. http://www.ebay.com/itm/172818723766?ul_noapp=true

Mark -- just my .02 worth ... but I would set the 302 aside and build/obtain a 383/400 motor. I know GM sells a 383 with a warranty, etc.
I know nothing about the engine builder you referenced -- but beware of items sometimes sold on EBay, etc. TAZ

Thanks Taz, that's exactly the plan. I just want to use most of the parts on a new 383 as I'm on a budget.

Understand -- but I would keep the original short block intactas there are bucu 350 4-bolt main blocks all over the Lords creation. That would be a good base to bolt your heads, intake, etc. from the 302. Obviously you'll need to work the carb/ignition to fit the 383 combo. TAZ

I think that's Mike Saye's shop. Well respected drag racer. Former world champ in Super Stock.....in my old car.

Everything I've read has been positive except for their timelines. He told me it will take 10-12 weeks to build a 383 stroker short block that I could use my current 302 parts on.
He said it should make 500hp/500tq on 92 pump gas. Wasn't sure whether to believe that or the salesman was putting me on. I would think in that range 103 octane would be the minimum.
