Default Camaro protypes and more

I recently purchased a large number of original GM photographs for the Camaro to use on my site but as that is some time off before they make it there. I thought I would share them here now as I know a lot of you will enjoy them as much as I do. I collect these types of pics and as some of these shots are quite rare I think people should be able to see them.

The first shots are of the never released 1968 Chevrolet Caribe. It is built on the Camaro body but is a two seater with an ElCamino type back. The body for the car seen here uses a fiberglass top for the rear to make up the pickup body and 67 headrest seats inside and the rest is the 68 style interior.

Picture #1 Caribe promotional side shot.

Picture #2 Interior side shot.

Picture #3 is a blowup from the exterior side shot showing the Caribe Emblem.

These next images are of the fabled 1968 Aerocoupe Camaro. This vehicle also based on the Camaro Coupe body line features a retractable roof similar to those used on the Sun Coupe produced by Buick in the early 70’s but is full width rather than the sunroof type Sun Coupe.

Picture #1 is of the AeroCoupe loaded on a pallet ready for assembly.

Picture #2 is of the interior of the vehicle after assembly detailing the mechanism that opens the roof.

Picture #3 Shows the Aerocoupe finished with roof closed outside.

The next two photographs are of the 1968 Cutaway car and an early production 1968 Z28. On the Z28 photo notice the z28 fender emblem here is either painted on or a decal.

The next several shots are of various pre-production 69’s.

Picture #1 shows the interior that is being assembled inside of a fiberglass mockup car.

Picture #2 is a blow up of the dash in the mockup.

Picture #3 is a blowup of the rear view mirror. It’s hard to see exactly what is in the background but thought someone may know what it is.

Picture #4 is of the 1969 Z28, I mean SS, I mean Z28. This photo is interesting in that the car shows both the Z28 emblems on the side as well as the SS on the grill along with cowl induction.

Picture #5 is of a never produced interior on a sunroof equipped 69.

The next several are just some standard advertising shots that I thought were pretty neat.

Picture #1 pretty standard type shot appealing to women. Notice the black painted engine emblems on the side.

Picture #2 used in Space-Saver spare tire ad.

Picture #3 one of my favorites for some reason used for the hugger campaign.

Picture #4 What better shot of a wide O taken in 69 are you likely to find.

Picture #5 is another of my favorites. Who could resist those puppy dog eyes. It’s just so innocent and appealing.

Picture #6 then you see this and all of a sudden that innocent looking Z gets all scary on you. Where is Norman Bates when you need him.

Thanks.

The originals are extremely clean for the most part. I scanned some of the detail areas at 2400dpi (scanners will go over 19k dpi) to blow them up. The Caribe emblem for example on teh car is only about 1/8th of an inch tall but is clear enough to get that blowup. If I had the negatives could have made a poster out of the emblem alone.

Always looking for more original pics. Should be buying more shortly with any luck.

Fantastic photos. Really cool to see some of this stuff for the first time. How about that psychedelic interior shot?? Crazy stuff!

And I think the Caribe would have been a huge hit if she came with the car. "How are youuuuuuu????"
