Default Uniroyal HR70-15 ??

Did these tires come on anything originally? They are called "Steel Belted Radials" and have a 3/8 white wall. There's no other "model" name on the side walls.

Verne, send me some photos and the date codes off the tires. I may know someone that can use them. They are probably mid-1970s version. Thanks

The Goodyear Custom Tread is the "Steel Belted Radial". Uniroyal, Firestone, and Goodyear all used the same tread that GM dictated to the tire suppliers. The GR70-15 Custom Tread is the one that is currently reproduced in white letter and 3/8" white stripe. GR70-15 fitment was on the Trans Am, Can Am, Buick GS, some 442's.... HR70-15's were probably on big cars/station wagons.

The Uniroyal GR70x15 was one of the 1973 Trans Am radials if you wanted white stripes. If this is an actual Uniroyal as Verne said, I am wondering what Uniroyal called it on the sidewall. Here's an example. And yes as you mention, that tread looks just like the infamous Firestone 500 tread on my 73 SD.

Uniroyal GR70x15 whitewall:

Yes - they came on my '74 Chevelle originally, mounted on 8" wide Corvette rally wheels.

How the heck did you get 15x8 wheels from the factory on a '74 Malibu? 15x7 was the standard RPO rally wheel, right? AS far as I know, Corvette was the only Chevrolet to get a 15x8 from the factory.

I'll post some photos later. I didn't see any model name on the front. I'll look more closely.

Here are the photos. There is definitely no model name on the tires.

Please tell me what you can decipher. I don't know the date coding. The original owner of my '62 had them mounted on the car in the late '70s.

I think "287" is the 28th week of 1977.
