April 2006 Feature Car: Frank Radake's 1969 Yenko Chevelle
| Engine (factory): | L72 - 427/425hp | | Trans (factory): | M-21 (4-speed) | | Rear (factory): | 4.10 posi | | Exterior color (factory): | Garnet Red | | Interior color: | Standard Black |
| Options: | COPO 9737 & COPO 9562 |
| Selling Dealer: | Francis Chevrolet - Bridgeton, MO |
Talk about a double dose of "rare"....not only is this car a seldom seen Yenko Chevelle, with the double COPO options, but it still resides in the hands of it's original owner! And sees it's fair share of track time on top of that!!
If I remember the story correctly, Frank's mother-in-law co-signed on the loan for the car! (Kinda makes ya feel about all those mother-in-law jokes!!) Lots of folks question the addition of power windows and air conditioning to the car, but as Frank so "frankly" puts it, "it gets HOT in St. Louis!"...and since this was his only car for quite a while, some creature comforts were definitely in order. But this car is definitely one of my personal favorites, because of it's original owner heritage and the fact that it was sold here in my home state. And I've been fortunate enough to see the car on a fairly regular basis, as Frank and the Chevelle haven't missed a Supercar Reunion since their first time back at SCR2!

Great car and history! But really, Frank, did you just "slip up" back in '69 to get your Mom to co-sign by saying it was just one of those little THREE-27 engines?! Dave

WOW...yet another reason why I love this site!
Neat to see someone who was able to hold onto a car as long as Frank has...and to be smart enough to know!

Awesome Chevelle! My L78 Camaro was purchased at Francis Chevrolet on May, 9 1969, one week before the feature car. Who knows, the original owner of my car may have been eyeing this Chevelle!

The owner added Air Conditioning later on after taking delivery from the dealership,as it was not possible from the factory that way.
