I made my last-ever purchase on eBay in December.
I haven't sold anything on there in roughly a year.
I will never, ever under any circumstances give in to paypal.

Hypothetically..if you sell on ebay and you do not report your income with this new system, the IRS will be able to zone right in on you by just going to paypal for the records or income and expenses to get the exact amount. Payments by cash/money order were not able to be traced in the past if you cashed them at a bank,so you could always say you never received payment for those items. Maybe some of you will recall that the state and federal government was “inquiring” about tax income loss through ebay sales in the last few years...hmmm.
And I'll bet eBay starts making sure all their buyers are now registered with PayPal well in advance too,and deleting any ads with phone numbers in them as well.

I'm fine in regards to the tax issues, everything I make can be found in my bank account records and on my tax returns. (it's not like I make enough to warrant trying to hide anything anyways!)
My beef is with the fact that there's so much fraud involved with paypal, and besides that, I don't care for the strong-armed tactics of being forced to use their system.
I just checked my account, it's been longer than I remembered since I've sold anything on there; I haven't sold anything since `06, and out of my 181 feedback (100% positive, fwiw), I had 36 as a seller. I only had 7 total transactions in `08, and at least 2 of those weren't business-related.
It's not like eBay is gonna be missing much from me anyhow.

So,let me understand this....after 1/15/09 all sales will be handled thru a paypal account and this includes vehicle sales, too.??? that will get pretty pricey on the higher dollar stuff!!! smart plan....the economy is in a tough spot so raise your rates and add more controls Always knew these guys were bad....

I just got this email from eBay telling me..
We are now telling all eBay sellers to remove any references to checks, cash and money orders from your listing descriptions. If you don't,starting January 15 these listings will be taken down.
This means they want everything paid through PayPal only. Why not,as eBay now owns PayPal and stands to make a min. of 1.9%-2.9% or more on each and every winning bid. We all heard this was coming, and were expecting it last fall, but eBay was gracious enough to not enforce it until now.Perfect timing huh? Is this the beginning of a Monopoly for eBay,or the beginning of the end for eBay? Either way this, and other related websites classified areas just became a lot more attractive to me.No wonder Craigslist is having more & more items listed on it daily.
I could feel my stomach turning as I was reading this!!
No wonder why so many call it ePay

Just curious about the Paypal discussion...I notice ads for items here and other places that still have the traditional payment terms, etc. I thought there was some new rule that everything has to go thru Paypal..???

I think I can honestly clear some of this up.I know one of the reasons for a paypal only idea was to make it safer for buyers to have the protection of getting a.. say autopart and having it be a piece of junk..notifing Paypal and they will put a hold on the money until its resolved. There are alot of creaps selling on ebay..ripping alot of people everyday with the restamp parts ect. When you pay for a part money order or whatever.. the seller can tell you to stick it and you really cant do anything about it but complain to ebay and that gets you nowhere.I know on my auctions for every say 3rd part I sell the customer asks if I'll take a m.o. before paying.. thru ask the seller a question and so far everyone is happy...also ebay wanted to do away with the sellers that put M.O. OR BANK CHECKS ONLY in thier auctions..Either these guys think they are hiding from uncle sam or they are the guys who wont honor thier transactions..you dont like the part..oh well dont cry to me...I have your $$$ and you dont have any recourse....Also the phone number think issue...I have people I know that sneak in the phone number to have it there for the people that want you to end the listing early..hence the auction ends..ebay doesnt get thier final valve fee credit..this leads to less $$$ for ebay ..other side is the guys who cant bid at the end because the auction dissapears..alot of reasons to think about.
