Gas pains
      #395979 - 04/03/09 11:44 AM Attachment (48 downloads)

And I'm not referring to the kind of gas pains you get from a cheap burrito.

I'm making this thread to show just what can happen to a carburetor when it's been exposed to a batch of bad gasoline.

I recently had a customer contact me about some issues they were having with a carb I'd built for them about a year ago. After a brief discussion I told them to send the carb back in and I'd go over it to see what the problem was.

I suspected the carb had fallen victim to fuel contamination.

Here's what I found when the front bowl came off.

Here is the secondary float bowl sans the float. Note that there are literally flakes of corrosion & debris on the bottom of the bowl.

Here is what I found in one of the main wells when I removed the jets. It was nearly completely clogged.

Note the IFR (idle feed restrictor) on the right of the picture--it was almost completely blocked off by corrosion.
