Anyone have any advice/opinions/knowledge on this 64 Vette. A buddy of mine who is serving overseas at the moment is interested in it and I cant get away to check it out in person at the moment. It's on Long Island, NY. It bid to $24,700 last time. In phone conversations between my buddy and the seller, the seller says it's "numbers matching" but cant seem to get to the car to take numbers photos at the moment...you know how that goes.

have someone inspect it fro frame rust and repaired body
seller looks like he is getting rid of his cars, hard to tell
He DID sell something before and the buyer was not happy with it, so make SURE it is looked at by someone that knows them

I was thinking the same after seeing that other feedback. I'm an absolute believer in seeing it in person before handing over any $$$. Just wondering if anybody knew the seller or the car.

i would tell your buddy to pass on the car. if it was numbers matching,he'd have the numbers, and pics of the undercarriage, and all the pads, too. nobody in their right mind,if they are trying to sell a car,is going to not try to prove it's number matching, unless they know it's not.

Quite correct on that assessment. That's basically what I'm telling him. If the seller can't make it out to his garage to take the pictures then that should be telling you something.

------I dont know what the owner needs to get out of it but its probably worth whats bid on it now or a bit more even with an incorrect motor. It would depend on how it drives out and the amount of frame and suspension rust. Your friend would also have to deal with that stripe. With that said theres a bunch of relatively small stuff wrong underneath the hood and the shifter sort of looks like a 69 style (ie. too tall). Its so cheap with E-bay to buy the enhanced pictures (ability to blow them up) it makes you wonder if he doesnt want bidders to see the car too well.........Bill S

I think it is a great looking day 2 style car (fwiw-I LOVE THE STRIPE)
Some cars are just cars and not holy objects
IF the condition of the frame and body check out I don't think he can go wrong with it at the price it is, everything SEEMS to be pretty nice from the pictures, hard to tell what the reserve is though ...
it also has 63 wheel covers, pretty sure one could trade those for a set of 64's if they liked, but I am thinking this car needs some Torque Thrusts to complete the look
not everybody cares if the hose clamps are correct and aligned at the exact angle
you can actually have MORE fun with a "day 2" car than with an exact replica of what the car was supposed to be when it was born
go back in time and look at all the 63 split windows that had the split taken out so they could look like the "new" 64's ... and all the 63's and 64's that had 67 gills grafted onto them to make them look "current"
an improved shifter and a tasteful stripe should not scare anyone away from what otherwise LOOKS like a nice car
