Yenko Nova in a Las Vegas junkyard
      #435543 - 12/26/09 09:44 PM

Saw this post on moparts.com - http://board.moparts.org/ubbthreads/show...e=4&fpart=1

In it 69Mannix posted this - In 1977 a Dodge Hemi charger was getting towed into a yard in the San Fernando Valley. It was complete! I ran to the office, sorry the motor was sold ($750) and the car disappeared, same yard a 66 hemi charger, later SAME yard a 70 440-6 cuda, loaded car made first day production. I bought lots of parts off it (rear rubber bumber)
in 80's another 440-6 cuda, most great parts missing, had a replacement door off a different 440-6 cuda!, 1974 a GTX 69 Conv in Las Vegas, they had a nova with the the name yenco on it. Saw many great cars go to the jy. saved a 440-6 RR 70 b-9 auto.
Sure he spelled Yenko wrong or maybe he saw a "south of the border" yenco special

I will say YES there was one. I work with a guy that used to be stationed out at Nellis and he said back in early 80's he and a friend went to the JY out around Craig Road looking for parts for a Firebird and HE SAW IT as well. He said it had Yenko down the side as well. I asked SS about it and if he might now of the car a couple of months ago after I was told about it and he stated that Ed C had asked about the car as well. I asked the guy that told me about it why he didnt buy it and he said the guy running the yard wanted what he felt was way to much $$$ I told him what they are worth today and he just left my office and told me not to tell him again. He wasnt sure of what the stripes looked like but was sure about YENKO being on the back quater panels. I have to bring in a couple of pictures to see if one jogs him memory.

Nothing to contribute here re: Yenko, but I remember hitting the junkyards on Craig Rd in the late 90s when I lived in LA. The stuff in there was unreal, even then!

I grew up in Vegas. The 70's went by fast. Went to the yards up and down CR and Lamb Blvd weekly. There was also a tow yard on Fremont St. not far from the Las Vegas Speed Shop that we would peek our heads in. Seems that what ever was wrecked on the weekend would end up there.

I talked to a gentleman today who claimed to have owned the largest junk yard in the Vegas area. I asked him about the possible Yenko Nova. He said it wasn't in his yard, but that he did look at it a long time ago and although he said he was far from an expert on Yenko cars, he felt it was not real. Lotta things there weren't big block like they should be. FWIW

No, actually I didn't. We (Jensen, Engler, and myself) were there looking at a 69 camaro(he's up by Eu Claire Wis) for Engler. He's seen Jensen's and didn't mention that it looked anything like that which led me to think more in terms of 69. I'll have to get his nbr from Jensen and re phrase the question. Very nice guy. Last name was Becker I believe. His shop is Super Sport restoration if I read the hat correctly.
