Does anyone have a picture or description of what factory headers look like? I just picked up a Z that has headers with 4 bolt collectors and 3 piece flanges.

Jerry MacNeish's book shows some of the factory headers. If you are saying that the flange where they bolt to the head is separated between the inner and outer ports, then I don't think they are factory headers. I've got a couple of books at home and I'll check after to work to make sure.

According to Jerry's book, the factory headers were built by Thomas and Kustom. Both had flanges that were connected, not 3 part like you describe. The Kustom headers had 4 bolt collectors, the Thomas headers were slip fit and then 3 bolt collector. Here's some pictures of the headers I had Stahl make for me to somewhat duplicate the factory headers.

They weren't cheap, but they weren't too bad. I think I paid $650 for the pair. Which isn't bad considering there is nothing out there that looks like the factory headers. Charley had a set on the old 67 Z28 he used to have and they looked sweet. Nothing for my car has been cheap so far. I had to pick a really rare and unique project just so it could be really expensive!

I agree with Jeff. Ain't nothing cheap for 1st generation cars any more.
Years ago, Carl Dwiggins, a early muscle car collector in NC, told me he bought the parts he needed no matter what the cost. Rare or otherwise. He advised me to do the same.
Little did I know how right he was!

This is what an NOS set of factory headers looks like. This is the driver's side Bill Thomas style used in '67. Stahl headers do not have the same pipe bends as these but use the same (or similar) style of flange at the cylinder head interface.
