Hey Bruce! http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggthumpup.gif yeah that was a very cool car and if I remember right he had the original Protect-O-Plate http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/headbang.gif along with the certification by Jerry McNeish. Does he still have it?

Bart didn't you think of selling your Z/28 for about 5 minutes earlier in the year? I can not think of a nicer original car than yours.

As a matter of fact Mark, I did have it for sale thinking if it sold for that kind of money, I could find another '70 Z and build another Harley. But after driving it around a little more this past spring I realized what I had here and now that we finally rebuilt the front end and cleaned the heck out of the engine compartment and undercarriage and exposed all these original markings, http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/drool.gif I'm looking forward to cruising down to Cars & Coffee with it to visit you guys there soon. By the way...Thanks for the complement. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggthumpup.gif http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggthumpup.gif

Spoke to Ed tonight and although it has a lot of what I am looking for, #'s, POP, and so on, I am on the hunt for more of a project. Ed's is up there in price as it should be, it is very close to being just right.

I am looking for a roller with the correct drivetrain, #'s, some original documents, but in need of restoration. We are building a new home so my budget is down there so a roller project for now would be great.

Steve's got a nice one done, for a price you would spend in restoration labor alone.

I am looking for a project / roller for less than 22k. By the time I finish the restoration I will be into it for as much as some of these Z's, but I need to do it at a pace I can afford and budget.

Greg:
If you find a 69 Z/28 with it's original drivetrain and documentation that doesn't need much sheetmetal work for under $22k, I would be quite surprised. The matching drivetrain and/or paperwork requirements are probably going to price you out of the project you're looking for. Just my $.02 Ed http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/burnout.gif

Ya, it's gonna be hard and would up the amount I could pay to around 25k depending on work needed. Hate to spend close to 30k and then spend another 10k on body and paint. When you add up all of the other needed pieces and machine shop work, trans rebuilt, suspension, correct numbers parts needed, you get the idea, now you are over 50k easy.

The way the market is going you will find some, not many but some IMO.

You may be right... however I believe solid lifter, matching numbers, no excuses cars are going to hold their value...

The market is just fine on documented, original drive-train cars. The guys who are complaining about the market seem to have non-matching, un-documented hot rods that missed the mark by a couple of years. If the market is bad, where are all of the cars that people are bailing on?

My suggestion to you is to buy a finished non-Z28 or lower your expectations given the price range you're after. Again, just my $.02 Ed

I am not sure I would say that the market is just fine, even for documented cars. I do agree that documented cars will bring more than clones but I can tell you that the market is a lot slower and also weaker than it was 1-2 years ago. There has been a correction in the economy, housing, the stock market, and collector cars. Mean while the cost of living has increased. Over all I think it is a good thing that we have a correction in our hobby. I myself am one of a hobbyist that enjoys the hunt, the restoration, and the enjoyment of ownership. It needs to be affordable for the masses IMO.

I understand that there are quality projects out there for around 30k or even more, but I bet if you ask around you will find some that have paid around 25k for their real Z-28 projects. It really all depends on the condition of the project and the seller. There will be those that will need to sell a little less than market value for various reasons. If one of those are out there I hope to find it.

Thanks. Nice project.

"It is documented by General Motors of Canada as having been originally built in Daytona Yellow, with Ivory houndstooth interior, and a L78 396/375hp engine, a M21 4-speed transmission, and a Positraction 4.10 rear. Other options included vinyl roof, power brakes, power steering, console with gauges, AM radio, tape player, SS (super sport) package, and deluxe interior."

The deck stamp does not match characteristics of other known deck stamps from that period... the casting date vs build date is also off from my observations as well... Yes, I will concede there are odd balls however the majority are built within a few days of being cast... all added together and a blurred image to boot makes me wonder... http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/hmmm.gif

Greg ,

I have two 69 Z's I am considering selling . Not sure if they fit your bill . Both are Van Nuys cars . One needs to be restored and has been certified by Jerry MacNeish . It is all original down to the T3, spiral shocks,AIR equipment, reverse lock out... everything . Blue light, endura, M21 and style trim .No docs but pretty obvious what it is in unrestored condition.Daytona yellow black standard

The other is a Van Nuys RS Z with a tattered build sheet still on the tank but enough to tell you what you have. Also have a bunch of California DMV paperwork from 1979/80 and an old DMV print out. Was originally owned by two lezbians so I consider that's good right ?:) Has original rear end but motor and trans are gone but I have a DZ block dated VO124DZ and the car is an 01D build with a VIN about 2000 after the car so pretty close . The chassis is in excellent shape. Original flat hood non D80 car which I think is cool . This car would be real easy to do and is in your price range. Lemans Blue ,black deluxe 712
