1969 Camaro. Powered by a GM All Aluminum ZL-1 427. This Camaro was built to drive, with some of the
modern upgrades a ZL-1.......ZL-X 427 Camaro might appreciate.

#1 Frame off rotisserie restoration, show quality PPG base coat / clear coat. Undercarriage is like new.

I tried to do something a little different but retain that raw power the ZL-1’s were known for. It’s got some raw power so I accomplished that part of the plan. I’ll let others judge if it’s to different or not different enough or something in between. It’s a very fun car to drive. With that 6 speed 1st gear pulls like a 4:35 ratio and 6th gear is like 2:30 ratio. Almost the best of both worlds.

The Valve covers are from PML. They make some very nice products. www.yourcovers.com (http://www.yourcovers.com)

The air cleaner does not index into the hood like a vette. If I’m driving more than a few miles I have a second air cleaner set up I run.

Rick, Is it just me but it seems that as great as your build quality is on these cars. It looks like you have found ways to improve it. I always have preferred the original ZL-1 look that you have done in the past but you nailed it on this car. So what is next after this? Maybe a more affordable car in the future using some of these ideas?

Thanks for the comment and compliment, it means a lot. My next project is always driven by my last project. Being a one man operation I can’t afford a major miscalculation on what may be appealing to others. I have four ZL-1 blocks left so I’m sure a ZL-1 block will be involved. Most of my buddies locally told me I was making a mistake building this car the way I built it. It needed after market everything , interior, gauge cluster, gauges , etc. And that everything under the hood needed to be chromed and polished. I see a lot of cars done that way and it just did not fit in my game plan. I tried to keep all the things I love about the way an original ZL-1 looks with some more modern technologies hidden underneath. Probably the biggest change I made to the interior was moving the center A/C vent so I could use a non-A/C dash pad. I never liked the way A/C dash pads look. I’d really like to build something more affordable but when you replace 129.00 gas tanks with 929.00 gas tanks or 2,500.00 tranys with 4,000.00 tranys or 300.00 shocks with 1,000.00 shocks, ect ect it makes it tough to do.

Now that is a great looking engine compartment. Love the L-88 Vette air cleaner, serpentine belt, headers, valve covers, etc!
