Sweet score indeed!

I kinda wonder, with the low miles showing, why the replaced hose clamps, battery cables, PCV hose, and spliced temp sender wire though...

why is there no oxidation on the intake and valve covers? If it sat outside for that long, they should be oxidized.... The valve covers on my camaro oxidized after one year of sitting outside covered up.

The valve covers are on backwards too. Who knows, maybe it had an intake leak while it was still under warranty. Nice find though.

Valve covers usually got turned around to make it easier to add oil.

I'd like to know if that is the original dip stick. Just goes to show you how much screwing around guys did with these cars when you look at the hood of this one with only 7,500 miles. The AIR stuff had already been yanked!

The photo of the plug wire date shows the VC to be fairly oxidized... It looks as though someone just cleaned it up...

Cool find no doubt but it appears as if the buyer doesn't really understand what treasure he really holds in his hands?.
Seems more like he's trying to clarify a few things before laying the car on his restoration expert?.

Each their own to do what they please w/ their own cars and all but it'd be nice to see someone rescue the car before any further is done, break out the detailing toothbrushes and camera?.

I can't help but think of this car in running condition w/ glass replaced, cleaned & detailed sitting at a show amidst the sea of perfect restos..
Which car would you walk over to, think about later and always remember?.

There's a long thread on this car over on the Camaros.net web site. His resto guy told him, a. the rear stripes are wrong. and b. the block is a restamp, due to the different sized numbers.

Charley, Kurt, and others gave him some good advice, but that's not enough. He's a little reluctant to take the word of the experts over his resto guy. Wants the confirmation in writing... preferably blood.

Someone should just tell him his resto guy is right and offer him $500 bucks for the re-stamped block!

He should look for a new resto guy, everything looks good to me stamping, stripes and the dip stick looks like the one on my car. What a great find, some guys have all the luck.

Read the Team Camaro thread to the end now. Jan from Stockholm Sweden (I think he's a member on this site, too http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif ) posted a scanned image of the Assembly Manual page showing the revised stripe dimensions for the rear deck. The Camaro owner now has a warm fuzzy feeling that his car is legit, so all is right with the world http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif He also posted more pics of the car when it was still sitting in the field...appears NOT to be out in the middle of nowhere like one might suspect http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/no.gif

-----Survivor is one thing, but come on, this car really needs a paint job at the very least. Did you see the rear quarter??? On this particular Z the mileage is just a conversation peice. Hey,,,Take a bunch of good pics and then restore it.........Bill S

The problem is, it seems that 95% of the time when nice original cars like this are "restored", its by some hack resto shop that doesn't document anything or restore it correctly... and the car basically just gets a glorified paint job rather than a proper restoration it deserves, losing the cool original build details that are not duplicated and are lost forever. In doing so it would make a very solid and original car one of just another of the 100's of "sorta" restored 69 Z's. Now if someone like the Supercar Workshop did the car, noting all details specific to this car, the build processes of the plant it was built in, and properly duplicated everything in the process of the car's ressurection, I would say a complete restoration would be in order... aside from that, I'd rather see it left alone than have some shadetree shop tear it apart and do it all wrong. From what I read, the restoration shop this guy is considering didn't even think it was a real Z, so the odds of them restoring it properly are about slim to none.

The only question I see is Why does it have Red battery cables and butt connectors that appear newer and recent . I thought this car has been sitting for 20 plus years.

Look at pics of any dragstrip in the USA from 69/70... They were FULL of brand new 69/70 cars that were totally cut up, painted on, modified in every way imaginable, and probably only had a few hundred miles on them at the time. I'm not saying the car is a guaranteed 7500 miler, but just because it has a few things missing/changed/damaged doesn't mean much to me...Seems like back then people weren't afraid to hack into their cars and change stuff right from the get go, and probably changed stuff like clamps and cables the first time the car needed a new hose or a battery.

------Joe,,,I agree with you that a competent shop should do the resto, take pics of every step of disassembly and assembly, etc. Any and all markings even under paint should be noted as well. I should have said that but sort of thought I implied it, I guess........Bill S
