I have a question for all of you Day 2 guys! If you were to have your wish of wider than stock Polyglas tires, what size would you be looking for??? I have been talking with John Kelsey quite a bit and he is looking into the feasablity of building a larger than stock size Polyglas. Your input and willingness to purchase something like this will go a long way toward making it happen. Let me hear your thought and opinions!!

L60x15 was the most popular replacement/perf tire back then. I'd buy a pair for the hemi if they made them.

I second that, I put L60 15s on my Camaro the week I bought it (7/78), and I have been looking for a useable set to put back on when I get done restoring it (back to how I had it when I first got it).

I think it depends what wheels you run, I had 15x7 positive offset (2 inch on the inside) Cragars on my Camaro and they just kissed the fender lips. With regular offset (3 1/2 to 4 on the inside) they would look good. Here is a pic of it in "78" with L60s and Cragars:
http://i293.photobucket.com/albums/mm68/BARNFOUND/scan0001.jpg
I have a new set of J60 15s to put on it if I don't find any L60s. Also I have some 275 60 15 BFG's on 5 spoke Rallys for my Son's 74 LT I could put on for comparison, they are about the size of L60s.

I think the Nova crowd may want at least one choice that is a little narrower....otherwise air shocks will be required.

I would buy a new pair, since these are at least 25 years old. The tread is still excellent, it's just the age that concerns me.

L60/15's and H70/15's. Too much wheel well shows with H60's in my opinion. I like the backs 27-28" tall. I ran H70/14's on the nova back in 1970. They fit perfect on the GM rally wheels. They were Schenuits made by Kelly I believe. You can buy L60 Goodyears fairly easy. I would love to see McCreary come out or repoped with some RWL's in that size. I guess I got to go root around in Philly at Donny White's garage. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/3gears.gif He's got em! I also have a deal brewing with Karen, Tommy's better half on a set of H70 Goodyears. Once L60 X 15s became available, I ran nothing else on the back of our '69 Chevelle. With the proper back spacing, even larger tires would fit without jacking the rear end a mile in the air. Sticky Polyglas would be great. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/burnout.gif

I missed some like new L60 BFG Belted TA's this week because I didn't pull the trigger fast enough...my wife even said I should have jumped on them when I had a chance since those were the exact tires I put on my Camaro in 78 when I got it.
I can't lower the car because I have true duals on it and if I do they would scrape really bad. Ground clearance isn't great with these cars when everything is stock. I like the nittos. I dead hook every time I launch, and they ride good too. I've put about 3,000 miles on them so far and I can't complain a bit.

Got my near NOS L60's from Donny about 4 years ago. I am NOT afraid to drive it basically anywhere. If you are apprehensive, run tubes. I agree some used tires are really bad. If I was going to beat the snot out of the old girl everytime I drove it I would not spend good money on ANY used/NOS tires of anykind. Just go buy the Mickey's or Pro-trac's if that is the case. They will twist the ears off any Muncie! http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/haha.gif http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/3gears.gif

I would never trust my life and an irreplaceable car to old tires. Tubes won't do anything to save you if the sidewall or tread experiences a catastrophic failure. They're not runflat inserts.
It doesn't matter how far you are going on the street, or how fast. If a front tire lets go without warning, you are either going into the oncoming traffic to the left or off the road to the right. And you can imagine the field day the lawyers for the guy you hit would have, when they find out you were knowingly driving on 40 year old tires.
I'll stick with buying the brand new set of L60x15s when they make them.
Here's my old tire story:
