I'm only 20 minutes from Greencastle, never heard of car. That would be a nice car completed. I would go see about car but there is no contact info and it looks as though he is posting everyones contact information for the world to see, with no real response as how to get in touch with them.

I believe there was a discussion a month or so back on TC... the car appears to be legit and based on what I saw and read + JM's cert... I would have NO PROBLEM buying it. A RS/COPO in Burnished Brown would be Killer... I don't think I have ever even seen a BB RS... If it turns out to be a 9737 car as well then all the better.
Probably cost 70k to send it to a shop and have it done... base your number accordingly...

It had a 50k buy it now this afternoon... but I figure a RS/COPO with the possibility of being a 9737 as well... it was well bought! The car will be killer and for right at 100k done... when was the last time you saw a professionally restored COPO for 100k?

COPO
09-16-2008, 09:01 AM
Don't think there is any way that car could be "done" for $100K including the purchase price unless the new owner does quite a lot of work himself and/or has some really talented and generous friends. Correct original parts alone will be very pricey for that car. For example, a correct MN engine, dated trans and BE rear all re-done/rebuilt would likely be a minimum of $25K. 837 alt, 499 dist, 4346 carb, another $3-$4K, and on and on. I think parts only would run at least $50K for this car. With a pro #1 resto, I bet it will be closer to $150K done or more. Nonetheless, cool car and a reasonable price that someone could restore over time. Most people GREATLY under estimate how much it costs to properly restore a car especially if one of the top pro shops is handling the work and you want to use the correct parts. Quality costs a lot.

1railman
09-16-2008, 03:12 PM
Could a RS COPO with restoration motor be bought for $175k?

HiHorse
09-17-2008, 01:10 AM
At the end of the restoration you have approx. $150K into the car and a paper from JM that says its a COPO.

P.J.
09-17-2008, 02:07 AM
If you have the money and you want a COPO you spend 150,000.and a lot a lot of work by that person
I bet that 150 is minimum you need to spend on the car If you restore it to its former glory.

You have to buy what makes YOU happy. Burnished Brown is not a preferred color for most collectors & difficult to sell. I love the color, but would probably pass on a purchase & resto if I were going to flip it to make $$. The RS option makes this one special & I wish I'd had the $$ to bid on it. Whatever you think parts and labor will be, add 25k.

COPO CARTEL
09-17-2008, 05:31 AM
I promise who ever bought that car will spend a grand total of 200K to do the car and do it correct, in that amount the purchase price of the car is included, sit down and do the math on the car and it adds up very quickly. Parts for the COPO cars are not cheap ie. motor, trans, rear, almost entire sheet metal, paint, original interior, X-11 goodies, radiator, minimum of 1,000 hours to do the car @ $50 per hour. Believe me when I say I have sat down and ran a complete list of parts to do a car. With that car you are doing a restoration around a trim tag. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/beers.gif

These days I see nothing wrong with a less than concourse restoration if it's for your enjoyment. Personally, I won't ever hunt the rare/expensive stuff to make 'em numbers correct again.
I think the new owner could spend another 80K or so & be very proud of this COPO when all's said & done. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/headbang.gif

ANDY M
09-17-2008, 06:15 PM
I doubt that the car came from Berger. Ed C. had on his list the last Berger car as 649305. My car is 649339. There are 3 other cars I know of between these 2 VINs, 310, 311 and 313. All of them just happen to be 9737 cars. Perhaps because of the unique parts for the 9737 COPO, all of the COPOs built during that period were all double COPOs. Since my car is an 05D, and this BB car is an 05E, (which was a 4 day week due to the Memorial Day weekend), I'm going to guess that it was built on Monday, May 26th.
The NICB said that my car was shipped on June 2nd, the Monday after the 3 day weekend.

Stefano, just conjecture on my part. My point was that between cars 649305 and 649339, all 5 that I mentioned are 9737 cars. You are correct that there were a lot of 05D COPOs, but I'm sure you have a bigger list than I do. We know that they came down the line in batches, so it's not an argument, just an observation that I made about those 5 cars. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/beers.gif

William
09-21-2008, 09:52 PM
Short answer is yes unless another stripe was ordered, such as D90 or DX1.

Factory ordering info states one stripe per car; Z/28s with style trim did not have the D96 pin stripes. But Z10s and Z11s had both - go figure.

That was actually a discussion a few of us had at SCR11... Brian Potter has an X11 hugger orange Yenko currently in restoration, and we were discussing how it likely would have been sold when new. My personal belief is that the X11 stripes would have remained, in addition to the Yenko stripes, which would have been up on the body high enough to not interfere with the painted on pinstripes. I have absolutely no proof or verification of this, I just can't see someone at Yenko sanding off/buffing pinstripes... I'd guess the guys who were hastily striping the cars just pulled a stripe kit off the shelf that matched the factory pinstripe color and had at it... then again i could be totally wrong, which wouldn't be the first time... http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

It only takes a second to buff off an original factory pinstripe. They were just laying on top of the laquer paint. No real adhesion. Alot of them were accidently buffed off by people who got aggressive with their waxing. 10 minutes and a old Sioux buffer, and you'd never know they were ever on the car.

Thanks for the info! I spoke to Dave Ewing (former owner of the delivering dealership) and he hooked me up with his former manager of the high performance area of his dealership. The manager remembered ordering my burnish brown car because of the unusual color and the RS option (he delivered a dozen or so copo Camaros). He even remembers the original customer who bought it! He's still around andI'll be speaking to him this weekend. Thanks guys for all of your help and encouragement with my "project". Bruce
p.s. the high performance manager said that he tried to talk the customer out of ordering a console because it was useless weight that would slow the car down! I'm glad that the customer prevailed in the negotiations.
