View Full Version : Possible memorial section

After reading about the passing of another of our own here I thought I might ask a question and would like some feedback. We have lost several members over the years here and on other car forums. As much as we try to remember them in the threads that are generated when we hear of thier passing, the threads dissapear eventually and are not read much after some time passes. I think a section set up for our friends would be a nice thing. I also think that it should be closed for posting other than by the moderator that receives the information to post along with photos and eulogy's. Even though we know each other mostly online or from a few phone calls or yearly shows and reunions, there is much more to each of us than just being a car owner or car enthusiest. I am sure many of you can think of several members from the SYC that have passed on since the board came into being. Steves Nova site has lost members as has the HAMB board. What do you all think of the idea?

Tommy mentioned it to me and it sounded like a good idea. Just another section. Thoughts everyone ?

Sounds good. Just another way to remember and honor the good people in our hobby who have gone to their rewards.

I think it's a very worthwhile and honorable thing to do. Tributes to lost friends and icons of the hobby get lost in other forums over time.
It's also a very good idea to have the moderators make the posts IMO.

I think it's a good idea.
So many times we lose touch with others after long periods of time, only to discover they have passed on and never knew.A seperate forum, something like..In Memoriam that shows what we respectfully had to say & share about them could be very helpful, decent, ease the mourning and give some closure as well.

I too believe that is a great way to honor those dedicated to the hobby. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/flag.gif An "In Memoriam" section.
Good idea Tommy.

Great idea Tommy and a very respectful way of helping everyone deal w/ the loss of these friends..
Nice to think of their families viewing these postings too and seeing how much these guys were appreciated and will be missed by their friends here at SYC..

Great move! If only the government worked so fast! I applaud you for the quick move to create it and for the excellent idea.

any chance the headings could be change to read their name and then followed by the years of birth and then passing. That way people will be able to go straight to the person they want instead of looking through a few before finding them.

Yes, that is the only way to keep these persons properly memorialized. Make it so.

I thought about him also when this topic was brought up.
A little story about Larry and THIS post that he put up before he passed away: Cookies & Milk (http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/showflat.php?Cat=0&Board=lounge&Number=168524&PHPS ESSID=cb29e0fc36ee2457e0c8ae360975926c&fpart=1#Pos t168524)
Shortly after reading this (almost 3 years ago now), I bought a box of the "Sundried Tomato & Basil" Wheat Thins to try. Larry was right...they are REALLY GOOD http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggthumpup.gif and I have kept them in my house ever since. I was going to write him to let him know that he got me addicted to these things http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif and that every time I ate them I thought about him, but unfortunately, he passed away before I got a chance. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Thanks for the positive input everyone and Thank you Rob for adding the subforum so quickly. I think it will be nice to be able to keep these threads at arms reach so that we can remember our friends and acquaintances. Hopefully we won't be adding any names for a long time..

Once again the members on this site prove that they are the classiest people in the hobby.
A great idea and well implemented.
