I have a good friend that has this truck, legit 26k mile truck, orig paint, no accidents, all dealer paperwork, only mods are a lowering kit but that is it, bone stock. These trucks are very low production and the 91 came with the very desirable 4sp OD tranny with 4:11 gears. He is thinning the herd a bit and I have a chance to pick it up for $12500 so the question is; Is this considered a "super truck"? will they go up in value or at a minimum hold value? He loves the truck, says it runs like a bear and is a blast to drive, he rolled a low 15 on stock tires this summer with it in NH. so what do you all think?

I had a 90 (first year, TH400/3.73 gear) It was fun doing smoky burnouts with it, but the 9 mpg got old quick... And that's when gas was less than 2 bucks a gallon. I still think they're a cool looking truck (in black only!) but to call them a "supertruck", well, I guess I don't even one what a supertruck is... Let's just say I wouldn't. 12500 doesn't really seem like a giveaway price for one either...jmo of course.

I would agree it is not a giveaway price but probably a fair price for both parties. They seem to do okay in the market provided they do not have a ton of miles and have not been heavily modified, thanks for your opinion.

No problem, and I agree with you, its not a "bad" price... one of those things where if you want it and it seems like a good price to you, then it is! Milage might be a little better with an OD trans too, although the 4.10 gear vs. 3.73 probably ends up making it about the same.

IMO there is only one supertruck, the GMC Syclone.
It will suck the paint off the side of a 454 SS truck.

I would buy a nice Sy (only 2995 produced,1 year only) for the same $.

I also had a 90 SS. They were slugs. I would value it under 10K.

------I can almost guarantee you that a guy I know from Cal. can burn you a chip that will get you at least 17 miles to the gallon and do it with more performance as well. A few simple exhaust modifications would help a bunch too. Any ss with a color other than black is worth a bit more as far as I am concerned, too..........Bill S

I had a 91 454SS with a replacement crate motor and trans. It was a cool truck, but they aren't really that quick and the gas mileage is not great. I was getting 11.5 mpg in daily driving and got 14 mpg driving out to Carlisle and back. I don't any way that truck could avg more than 14. The paint/clear coat tends to get thin on them like the Monte SS cars from the 80's. The main reason I would get one is for towing capacity. I think the 91-93 were rated for 9500-10K towing capacity. I sold my truck 4 years ago with 30K miles on the motor/trans and 95K on the truck for around $6500. I would say $10K is the max to pay for one if it's really clean. That may still be high in today's market/economy.
