I thought I would share with all of you some news about my amazing nephew Jacob Tyree....
Several years ago my nephew (Jacob Tyree ) had some cancer removed from his spine and is now in a wheelchair. When they had the Hot Rod Power Tour that came through Roanoke Virginia, He went out and met Charley with "The Mule" and got some photos with Charley and his car.
Over the past several years Jacob has been very active in various sports and has the best attitude about life then anyone I know. He is so positive about everything and it rubs off on those around him.
Here is a link of his most recent accomplishment.

OK, before Charley yanks this part of the thread I'd like to say that I too had tears running down my cheeks when Ken told me the story! Just one of the many GOOD things you never hear about some of the people on this site!!!!!

Charley Lillard, you're one helluva guy! http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/flag.gif

And while we're at it, a certain Spoiled Brat in Kenosha ranks right up there as well. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/worship.gif

I am sure you are very proud of your nephew John and it shows. I too heard the story about Charley and it blew me away. As Cumby said, Mr. Kenosha is not unlike Charley in many ways. Two of the best and most humble guys you could ever be lucky enough to be friends with.

Sounds like Jason is not going to let a little thing like this slow him down. He will be very successful in life. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/flag.gif

You know, as I think about Jacob, he reminds me of another young man I had the pleasure to meet a few years ago during my stint as a Scout Leader. I'll save the story for another time but to summarize, his outlook on life given the challenge he faced was inspirational. Makes our daily 'bumps in the road' seem pretty insignificant. And the strange part: his name is Jacob too.

So John, to your nephew, and to all the Jacobs out there, my respect and admiration. We should all take a lesson here.

Better leave it alone. Sometimes it makes individuals with a little more income very happy to do something very special for another person anonymously and wanting nothing in return (Ken included). One thing I/we have practiced over the years is Random Acts of Kindness. Just watching the look on someones face when they receive something nice beit a tank of gas or a paid for dinner without ever knowing who it came from makes it all worth it and that pales in comparison to what we are talking about here. I would be willing to bet what Charley did made him happier than many of the car purchases he has made. Certainly the Isetta. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

...If anyone has a special "younger" person that has inspired them...
.....let's hear about them.

Well, Jacob and his Wheelchair Basketball team
...."Charlotte Rollin' Bobcats"
...Is at it again they have reached the FINALS in the National Wheelchair Basketball Championship in Denver, Colorado. Here is the message his dad sent me....
....
To all of my people, just want to let you all know ahead of time so you can watch his game live at 4pm eastern on a webcast.

They won both of their games on Thursday big, played again this morning and won in a very close game that was much closer than the final score indicates. His team, Charlotte Rollin' Bobcats, plays again tomorrow for the National Championship.

If you are able to watch, to get it:

Go to AUCAROLINAS.ORG
CLICK ON THE LINKS TAB
CLICK ON THE WNBA LINK
FOLLOW INSTRUCTIONS FOR WATCHING THE LIVE WEBCAST

It should be a very exciting game. Our opponet, The Windy City Warriors, won their semi final game today against the number one seed and defending champion Nebraska Reddawgs. Our team played our semi final game today against the BORP team out of San Diego. It was a great game, a huge team effort from our kids.

Our website AUCAROLINAS.ORG has lots of info and pictures about our team if you want to look around.

Thanks,
Jerry Tyree

......THEY WON THE NATIONAL CHAMPINONSHIP !! http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/headbang.gif

What a TEAM!
Here is a recap of the final game...
Recap of 2009 National Junior Varsity Wheelchair Basketball Tournament-Day 3

DENVER (March 21) – The Charlotte Rollin’ Bobcats junior team finally reached the top of the mountain. After finishing third in the prep division in 2007 and coming up short in last year’s JV title game, the Bobcats won the 2009 National Wheelchair Basketball Association Junior Varsity national championship defeating the Windy City Warriors of Chicago 51-47.

It’s the first national title for the junior team. The Rollin' Bobcats adult team was NWBA Division II National Champions in 1996 and 1998.

After seeing a nine point second half lead disappear, Caitlin McDermott, the tourney MVP, put the Bobcats ahead 49-47 on a fast break lay-up with a minute to play. Jacob Tyree sealed the win with two free throws.

Despite missing about 13 minutes of the second half due to foul trouble, Chris Baker led the second-seeded Bobcats in the game with 16 points and six assists. Phillip King picked up the team in Baker’s absence with 14 points, 13 rebounds and 8 assists. McDermott had eight points while Tyree added nine points, 11 rebounds and four assists.

Baker and Jill Moore were named to the all-tournament team. Four Charlotte players – McDermott, Moore, Tyree, and Lindsay Metz - were named NWBA Academic All Americans.

The Bobcats defeated San Francisco’s BORP Bay Cruisers 62-51 in semifinal play after beating the San Diego Hammers 35-13 and St. Luke’s Tornadoes of Spokane, Washington 45-24 in the first and second rounds.

.....Jacob never ceases to amaze me ! WOW http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/flag.gif

Again.......After meeting Jacob at one on the Power Tour stops a couple years ago and spending some time with him..........That "Positive" Attitude he has come thru again.....he very "Easily" could have sat back and been "Pissed" off at the world for the hand that was dealt him......But......Jacob is one of those "Special" people that has "NO" negatives in his life....."ONLY" Positives http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/worship.gif........A Perfect Role Model for some that worry about "Stupid" little things that mean "Nothing" in the Big picture.........

I will let him know how you are all very proud of him and his team. Everyone of those participants have a story behind them and each or them are an inspiration to all of us. Each of them face each day with a "Can Do" attitude and don't let the little things get in the way.
...and I also applaud their parents
...who without their help and inspiration each of them could have taken a different path.
......
Thanks everyone ....i just had to share this. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/youguysrock.gif
