I'm pretty sure that's authentic Dan.
I talked to JoeG about this awhile ago and he mailed me this recent pic of Joels first shop, that he started back in Jersey in 1966.(The word MOTiON & pink wall are Photoshopped in)
Pretty crude and not like the shop we're all familiar with on Sunrise, but neat none the less.

I've had 2 of these setups. I never really believed they had any connection to Motion Performance.

I thought Joel got the idea for the name "Motion" from this company that made ignition parts. Also, I wasn't aware that Joel had a shop in Jersey. I thought his first shop, started in the late 50s was in Brooklyn, and then the Sunrise shop opened in 1966.

http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif you're pulling both legs, right? Joel had the shop in Brooklyn at a Sunoco station from the late 50's until 66 when he moved to Baldwin. I do not believe these parts are related in any way.

http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/scholar.gifBut, according to my wife I am wrong with an alarming consistency!! http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

You guys are right about Joel being in Brooklyn in the late 1950's and not New Jersey,as I was wrong earlier.
I heard that was why Joel called it MOTiON,per that ignition companys name, but no other connection.
JoeG sent me that awhile ago so I was hoping he would log on by now & clarify.

Yeah, that picture looks like it's probably the old Brooklyn shop if anything. It sure looks like Brooklyn by everything in the picture lol.

Very interesting! If its original, I'd like to add it to my collection but if not, I'd like to avoid spending the money on a part with a similar name but a very different purpose.

Thanks guys,

That's the old Brooklyn Motion shop Rick....Joel just stuck in the Motion name with the computer. I had gone back there to see if there was anything left of the old Motion sign............This photo is only a few years old---The neighborhood was in much better shape back in the 50's & 60's..........

About the Motion Ignition from N.J.( Joel did get the idea of Motion Performance from that Company)------Dan you better open your piggy bank........

Was not me, sorry but I was not convinced this is a Motion Performance item. There were numerous examples of the "Motion" brand name used as a poser or replicated brand name throughout the years.

Actually it sounds like Joel way the poser who stole their name.

You're right Dan, It wasn't a "Motion Performance" branded item as we know it ---It was just a new CD unit used back then ,which got Joel hooked on it's performance and was just another beginning factor ,which led to the Motion Performance we know today....... It is a neat piece though.......I think JoeC has an actual Motion Ignition catalog.........
