Would a 68 L78 have drippers on the valve covers? I need a set for my 68 L78 motor I am building. I know original ones are impossible to find in decent shape. So I want to make sure I order the correct set.Does any one recommend an after market pair they bought?

Any chance either of these 2 sets are what you are looking for?

Jason, the left side (single hole one) in the first pic is definitely correct for 69 Camaro, and I think Nova. (definitely not Chevelle) The telling things are the little bump-out on the inside rear, the inside spark wire tower being forward of the rear bolt hole, and the temp sending unit clip on the outside lip forward of the third bolt hole.
I'm not certain on what to look for for right side ones.

Crane corvettes has an ID on their page that is correct and they are expensive but.Jeff

I think I spent $125 for a set of originals ($100 for the driver side one) and another $250 to rechrome them.

You can buy an original set like "Unreal" did and have them rechromed or you can get the reproductions from Crane Corvettes and also Paragon Corvettes has them. The good reproduction go for $400 to $500

I forgot I have an original set on a complete 68 396 from a full size car. They have the small bump and recess on the drivers side like 68 valve covers a supposed to have. So my question is will they clear the brake booster? Or do I have to use the corvette style on my 68 L78 Nova. I will post a picture later tonight!

After looking at Kim's pics and comparing them to SuperNovaSS's pics, there is one difference with the driver side one. Note the little flat stamped into SuperNovaSS's cover that is not present in Kim's pic.
Mine is like Kim's, and I was 100% sure it was 69.....now I'm not 100%. Can someone confirm that the ones like Kim's are correct for COPO?
If the spacing on the 68 Nova is exactly like the 69 Camaro, which I think it is, then the ones like Kim's will definitely not interfere. Actually, the wiper motor is more in the way than the booster. The slanted one is definitely not necessary.

Ok I went up and took a picture of the driver side valve cover of the 68 full size 396 motor that I have. It has the same little offset as Kim's valve cover. So would this be the correct valve cover for a 1968 disk brake car? Kim if I am not mistaking didn't all the Gibb cars have power drum brakes? Someone might be able to verify this that has an original 68 bb camaro with disk brakes?
Thanks Jason

All the Gibb cars were power drum brake cars. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggthumpup.gif

Here's a pic with moor in the car. I think the wasn't all the way one the frame mounts at time. Close on the booster.
I think the motor mounts were the wrong ones if I remember right.

Kim thanks for the pictures. I am going to try them on my car when I do my motor swap in a couple of weeks. If they fit they are going off to be re-chromed!
Thanks again Jason

Well I took the valve covers off the 68 396 that I have. They came out real nice after I blasted them. The only difference from the pictures that were posted is, these valve covers don't have the drippers. Is this because it was a 325hp motor. It makes no sense why they had different versions of valve covers for different HP cars! If any one is interested in pictures I can post them.
Jason
In theory yes, solid lifter engines were the ones that received the drippers above them, but some hydraulics did too, even though it wasn't the norm. But some solids didn't either.
I would like to see your pictures..

Some d/s valve covers have the bump-out on the inside rear corner and a little flat on the outside rear corner, like the top one in SuperNovaSS's pics.
Other d/s valve covers have the bump-out on the inside rear corner and but do NOT have the little flat outside rear corner, like the one in Kim's pics.
Mine has drippers, has the forward plug wire stand, and is the exact shape of the one in Kim's pics. Mine also has the temp sending wire clip just forward of the third bolt hole on the outside. Can't tell about Kim's.
Until this thread, I was positive mine was correct for 69 L72 Camaro. Can someone confirm?

I also noticed on the drivers side wire tower it has a small tab bent out with a hole. Never seen this before. Kim's picture has it also? They will be a nice touch to my new L78 motor going into the Nova in a couple of week's. They will be going of to the re-chromer this week http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/beers.gif

JASON I THINK THE SPARK PLUG WIRE HOLDER IS MORE FORWARD ON THE DRIVER SIDE THATS BIG CAR. I THINK NOVA CAMARO SAME 68 ONLY.LOOK AT PIC KIM HOWIE HAS THE TOWER IS MUCH FOWARD THATS THE WAY MY ORGINAL IS TO ON MY 68 L78

I agree... I'm not up on 68's, but on 69 Camaros and Novas the wire stand on the drivers side is tacked to the cover farther forward, on the inward side of the last bolt hole. If you have power brakes the spark plug wires will be mashed against the booster with those covers. I'd imagine 68's were the same as 69.

the only diffrence 68 doesnt have the clip for temp wire because it clips to alt because its on driver side. 69 clips to valve cover alt on pass side camaro nova same http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/3gears.gif

Brent,
I looked at Kim's picture and you guy's are correct, I do see that now. But I was looking at some pictures I have of my motor during the restoration and I bought a cheap set of after market valve covers and the bracket is in the back. I don't have no issues with it hitting the booster. If it was farther forward wouldn't it hit the linkage for the carb. I can move the bracket to the correct spot before rechroming does anyone have any clear pictures? Brent can you take one for me?
This is the motor in the car now. I am doing an engine swap in the next couple of week's. I am putting a date coded L78 in it's place.

Well after looking at some pictures of the Gibb nova's, I figured out where the Spark plug wires get routed. Since I don't have any money in the valve covers, I have decided to move the bracket! They are just off a spare motor that I have. The valve covers are in real nice shape with no ding's or damage. They will look great when re-chromed. Thank you guy's for seeing the bracket was in the wrong location. I think Williamsboy told me that last week but I didn't notice any thing different until you guy's pointed it out! You guy's are the best the next one is on me http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/beers.gif
