While at Vette Fest, Darren comes up to me and tells me that Don Stowers is looking for me. So I meet Don by his beautiful car, and Don shows me these pictures and tell me this story.
The first picture is of Don in Vietnam in October of 1968 ordering his new 1969 Chevelle. Priceless!

This was the car he ordered...1969 SS396 L35 325hp Chevelle, White, Radio Delete. Don arrives bacj in the states, he is picked up at Lambert Airport in St. Louis, with his brand new car. The car has 111 miles on it that day. Great story Don!

Neat story and pics.
Is there any way the pics can be clarified? I'd love to see the detail in the engine photos.

Just terrific! Great photos. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/beers.gif I'll bet Don did not pose for the photo either. That Chevelle brochure was probably an extension of his hands according to his buds! http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggthumpup.gif

WOW,
Amazing!
I was 9 years old in 68. I remember a friend down the street who's brother had a 69. We used to ride in it to the drive in movies on occasion (in retrospect his mom most likely made him take us).
I dont think we have had the opportunity to shake hands, thanks Don for your service. From a guy who was just a snot nosed kid at the time I sure appreciate your sacrifice for me and the rest of us.

Thanks to all for your great comments. And Dan thanks for posting.
Darren, I didn't hear about Yenko's for another 12 years.
Richie, I'm still young and Mark you "got it".
That car was traded in on a 70 Impala 350, Auto, with A/C within a year. With a wife and two kids it just wouldn't work.
Next venture into toys was 1983, 70 SS 396 Chevelle. And the rest is history.
Happy Thanksgiving to all.
Don
