Ann and I test drove a black '09 6.1 SRT8 Hemi/manual last Wednesday. It was a very nice car and rode very nicely but did not turn us on in the way we had hoped. The 425 hp was there and pulled quite hard but you did not feel it like you did back in '70 (which is maybe not a bad thing). The salesmen could not believe we were not as impressed with the power of the car like everyone else was. Then I took one of them for a ride in the '02 ZL-1 and made him understand better though admittedly it was not fair to compare 425 hp with 600 hp. Overall it was an extremely nice car with looks to match, just not worth the $46k it would have cost us pre tax.

Rick- were they charging "market adjustment" http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif ? Some Dodge dealerships 'round here still don't get it and are charging $5-10K over!! http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/bs.gif
Good idea to take him for a ride to demonstrate real power!! http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/beers.gif http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggthumpup.gif http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/3gears.gif

No, they were selling at sticker price. The idiot salesman did nothing but complain about their dismal sales and then told me I would have to pay sticker price. NOT! Especially not on a fully loaded car.
It was too bad as we were invisioning painting on the early style HEMI billboard striping which would have looked awesome on a Red/Green or Orange '09.

Yea that's crazy selling at sticker price. I am getting mine at invoice, which still allows the dealer to make some money because he is not eating his hold back.
That's alittle unfair to compare an 02 ZL-1 done by GMMG to a stock Challenger even if is an SRT8. I am going to get mine over to Hennessey and have them tweak it out to 650-700hp and then we can compare http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/3gears.gif http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/3gears.gif http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggthumpup.gif

I have to admit I like it alot also. I'm going to get either the Camaro or the Challenger next year for my daily driver and at this point I think I like the Challenger more. I have only seen pics of the Camaro, so it's not a fair comparisson at this point on time...

AND THEY TOLD ME I HAD STICKER, ARE NOW CALLING AND EMAILING ME WITH MUCH BETTER OFFERS. I AM WAITING TO SEE THE CAMARO ALSO BUT I DO LIKE THE ALL BLACK SRT WITH PISTOL SHIFTER, AND IF YOU CHECK THE DODGE MAILER THAT THEY SENT ME YOU CAN ADD SOME REAL NEAT OPTIONS A TA TYPE HOOD A GO WING WHICH I LIKE THE STOCK SPOILER BETTER AND A BODY DECAL KIT KIND OF LOOK LIKE THE RT STRIPE I PERFERED IT WITH OUT IT. YOU CAN ORDER A FROM THE FACTORY A CHROME T HANDLE AND LAST A PREMIUM KATZIN LEATHER SEATS. I WOULD ORDER THE BLACK SRT WITHT HE TA HOOD AND THE KATZIN SEAT OPTION WITH RED LEATHER INSERTS INT O THE BLACK LEATHER SEATS.

They are $ 2500.00 over sticker around here....
I've seen the silver prototype camaro in person, and I stopped by the local dodge dealer this weekend to check out a few R/T's they had on the lot. The challenger does look better to me. I asked about the price on the challenger, and he said a little over 40!!! I was like do you think I'm an idiot? Thats SRT8 money for a regular R/T. I told them I was interested in a white R/T 6 speed, but not for what they wanted for it.

I was just going to respond that I have been to the track on a grudge night and was paired up with a SRT8 Magnum 2 years ago. When the tree dropped, the BS stopped and I was the first at the finish line. Of course that was also the personal best that the car has run...13.26. The Hemi was coming on strong and had a trap of 109 mph!!!
Yes, I would like to have one of those sitting in my garage with keys in my hand. No, I would not pay $40K plus. I will go out and find 2 Oldsmobiles and really tick my wife off for that kind of money!!!! http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/hmmm.gif

My friends 02 T/A just got some more work done to it at Vengeance Racing in ATL. 451 rwhp with a 228/230 cam, fast intake, full exhaust, and a set of TEA heads. NOW that's a musclecar! They look great and resemble their ancestors alot more than the new Camaros. You could remove every "Challenger" emblem from that car and everyone would still know what it is even though they are still very new in the world. Now that's identity recognition.

On Monday the dealership here in Greenville (Big O) had a del. of six Challengers of which three are the SRT8. Went last night to check them out. As the wife and me were walking into the showroom I noticed smoke coming out of the A/C duct, talk about salesmen scrambling to get those cars out of there! Fire dept shows up with half the police department. Electrical fire in ducting (second fire this month). While all this was excitement was happening I got to look over all of the cars without being bugged by any if the salesmen. Mark up 5K over sticker.

The prices are coming down on these. I got my six speed three weeks ago and did not pay anything near MSRP. I thought I would be able to use it as my daily driver but seeing salt all over it the last few little snows bothered me. I am picking up a beater tomorrow for when the roads are bad.

Sam, It is Brilliant Black metallic, with every option. I will post some pics. The reason I am high on the car is when I sat in it it was like when you are looking for a motorcycle you sat in it not on it type of feeling. It is tight and well built. The dash is easy to read with all relevant information available and the interior ergonomics are right on in my opinion. The shifter throw and being able reach out to work the controls is just about perfect. I also really like how they painted the 6.1 Hemi the original Hemi Orange engine paint from back in the day. The car itself idles quietly with a slight rump, but when you get on it, it gets loud quickly.
I know this sounds crazy but when I was driving it home from the dealer I had a grin on my face that I have not had in a while when driving a car. And what is really crazy is that I find myself going out to the garage to look at it just like one of my old cars.
Now I just hope that the Camaro makes it to the streets, it will make traffic lights interesting again in America. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/3gears.gif http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/3gears.gif

I was talking with a friend recently while we were both shopping for some newer muscle and we both concluded that those early Z06's were the best bang for the buck. They'll run low 12's right off the street.

I also had an 02 Z06 several years ago, and sold it for 30K. The car was a blast to drive and in my opinion, are the best performance per dollar car available right now. You can get them for between 25K and 30K, usually well taken care of, will run 12's with a little traction, corner like a go kart, and get 28 MPG on the highway. What other cars are out there for that value that have the performance, and low maintenance cost? The only downside would be the expensive special size Goodyear tires that only last 20K miles or so. I guess a set of Kumho's would fix that.

Guys I agree the ZO6's are killer bang for the buck... but another car that is also a great bang for the buck is 2001 and 2002 Porsche twin turbo's .. I know they are not American but you can buy one for under 40K now .. a car that stickered for 120-145K new . And you can get crazy HP from them with some minor mods... just another option. Personally I think everyone should have both ..
As far as the new Challenger vs new Camaro... the new Challenger looks more like a 69 Camaro than the new Camaro looks like any Camaro of any generation....still waiting to see one in person though

Yes, the 996TT's are great cars, but repair costs are HUGE!!! My DD is a Porsche and I would never "go naked" without a factory warranty on one of these cars. Hell, my summer wheels cost $6,500 alone!!! A buddy just did a tranny in his '02 TT and it cost $10K...
I bought a 3 year, 36,000km warranty on the Z06 for about $1,800 bumper to bumper with $100 deductable. So, I think I have the repair cost angle covered http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Unfortunatley with any "exotic" you need to be careful. Porsches are cheap to maintain. Not much to a box 6 with a couple of turbos hanging off the back . I drive em and race em and I can tell you its not what you know but who you know when it comes to mantaining a Porsche:)Lots of people get laid away on these cars all the time. 10K for a tranny... someone was showing you no love at all !!
Just be glad you didn't have to buy a "real" Porsche tranny like this one http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Anyone who does not think the 2010 Camaro is a great looking car needs to watch this video. To me this car has a hint of old school with a touch of class and it looks ready for anything that comes along side of it. I know the LS7 is not an option yet but I still thing the car is very sharp looking.

My dealer is currently holding my order for the Bumble Bee package now estimated by GM for a June 09 announcement. Stripes on the Bumble bee will be more like the concept style which is a very good thing. Now if the Ducted hood on the TF2 Movie car makes it to production that would be VERY good.
Rally Yellow and Black stripes could be a very good looking combo. Reminds me of Daytona Yellow. Eye popping. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/beers.gif

yea I know. With the quiet exhaust anf mild street tune it sure don't feel like 500 hp. But they run low 12's all day without touching a thing. Slicks, a tune puts it in the 11's.. The supersnake (725 hp) is deep in the 10's.. In fact MM&FF ran 10.8 with a bone stock one this month at E Town.. It did have DR's though. Amazing..

1,000 hp, twin-supercharged Dodge Challenger by RDP Motorsport

Click above to enlarge
Excessive power is just enough, right? If you abide by that rule of thumb, perhaps you'd be interested in RDP Motorsport's latest offering, which trumps the Challenger's SRT8's 6.1L Hemi and its 425 horsepower with a stroked version displacing a classic 440 cubic inches. That block is topped with a duo of superchargers that offer an astounding 1,000 horsepower. Oh yeah, it's also boosted with two nitrous kits. That's enough grunt to catapult the portly Challenger down the 1/4 mile in the nines, and if that's not fast enough for you, we suggest therapy.
This outrageous pony car was recently unveiled at the PRI Show in Florida and is definitely a bit overkill for most people's needs. So, while the Australian company will be happy to replicate this powertrain combination for you for a price, it's good to know that RDP will work with you to design pretty much whatever you need on a custom basis. Check out the video after the break for more.
