Most of what I saw on this video is very old technology. Henry Ford used the drag chain system in his first assembly lines. Oshawa and other GM plants went to the AGV system in 1986. In GM the marriage station, where the body is attached to the chassis, is totally automated, with no manpower involved at all. About the only difference is the suppliers, such as Lear, working within the plant. While the bodyshop appears to be pretty well automated, there are still people working in the old "Jungle Line" setup. I can't imagine carrying exhaust systems over my head all day. You would want to be young and awfully strong. To those not familiar with car assembly, it looks pretty impressive. Go for a tour through one of the newer GM plants. You may just be in for a real eye opener, seeing how automated the assembly process has become. I know that in Oshawa you can be set up for a plant tour. If GM Oshawa were to build a world car, the city does have a harbor where cars could be loaded on ships and sent around the world. I wonder if they have even thought of that.
