Hey guys,I did not want to hijack my own thread on the LS6 so I figured I had better post a new one. I saw in the wanted section several of you folks looking for Z28 well.....
I have a #1 show quality 1969 RS Z/28. It is black vinyl over Dover White with black stripes and black interior. It has a certificate of authenticity from Jerry MacNeish and was featured on the Speed Channel with Keith Martin a couple of years ago from Carlisle. Its documents include the dealer invoice,MSO and all titles. It has teh origianl born with drivetrain and is optioned with the very rare M22 trans and 4.10 posi(Only 1% of ALL 1969
Camaros had a M22) It has an Endura front bumper,Gauge package and console,AM radio,PB,spoilers. It is a Nov 68 Norwood car and therefore does not have an X code on the trim tag. Its trim tag is in Jerry MacNeish's book. Price is firm at 120K. Call Rob at 484-432-1946 and I will fully discuss this great car.

I believe he is assuming the M22 was available in all engine configurations(243,000 cars). Camaros equipped with M22 =2117. The possible cars it was available in, off the top:
20,000 Z28
5,000 L78
311 L89
1,100 COPO's
26,411 Cars would have qualified to have M22's.
A minimum of 8% did assuming all the Z28,L78,L89 & COPO's were ordered as such. I would guess a realistic % would be 9 since a percentage of those cars that qualify were equipped with automatics(not Z28's). To determine how many Z28 would require much more data.

10% makes sense for 69Z's.

If I am wrong on the number of 69's with a M22 I stand corrected, but I blieve I am right. Maybe Jerry will chime in.

I stand by orignal sttement I checked with Jerry MacNeish last night and only 2117 1969 Camaros got the M22. Do the math, that is actually less then 1%.

If Mcneish sais there were 20,302 Z's made in 69 then 10% equals 2000 or so, not 1%.
Are the cars still NOT for sale? Or did I miss something.

You are not understanding the numbers. In 1969 there were total of 243,000+ CAMAROS built. Only 2117 of them were optionede with a M22 trans. That is the number per Jerry MacNeish. Stuart you did not miss a thing. I have decided that I am not going to sell either car because I know what they are and they are not replaceable. Initially they were offered to make room for another, but I have decided if I want the other car,I will just buy it. I can always find additional garage space.

Show off!! (kidding) http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/naughty.gif Beautiful car!!
RobsLS6
It's you & Jerry who are not understanding the numbers correctly, and here's why.
In 1969,the only Camaros to <u>possibly</u> receive the M-22 trans. was the 396/375HP L-78 or 302/290HP Z/28.
They made a total of 20,302 1969 Z/28 equipped camaros.
They made a total of <u>4889</u> 1969 SS L-78 equipped camaros.(inc.COPO)
For a grand total of 25,191 camaros that could have <u>possibly</u> received the M-22 trans..
But obviously not everyone of them did,as some got an Auto trans, but Chevrolet didn't keep detailed track of that.
So based on that grand total of cars able to recieve the M-22 and of the 2117 M-22's installed between them, the closest ratio is more like 9%,which = 2267-(which in reality is a lil less as not everyone of them received it)
Still a scarce %,but not your earlier quoted 1%,that's for sure.
That 243K + figure Jerry is quoting you is the total production for ALL 1969 Camaros built..i.e 6 cyl., 2dr. coupe & convert. Of which 100's of thousands were ineligible for the M-22 trans.
deuce-less
12-11-2008, 07:41 PM
there are a few copo camaro M-22 optioned cars as well http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggthumpup.gif
Like the 1969 COPO Chevelles,I believe those are included in the RPO L-78 Camaro count I quoted.

All I said was there were 243,000 1969 Camaros of all types and 2117 1969 Camaros that got the M22. I am not stating anything else. The math is simple. 2117 divided by 243,000. What do you get?

But your's or Jerrys' stated quote of 1% is misleading.
Your comparing it to the wrong total.
Not all those 243K + camaros were eligible for the M-22.
Why include cars that could never recieve it in the first place?
DWCamaro69
12-11-2008, 07:56 PM
Both arguments are correct. Rob didn't say 1% of the '69 Camaros that could receive an M22. He said 1% of all 69 Camaros. I think we all understand that it is around 9-10% of the 69 Camaros that were eligible for the M22 option.

First off let me be clear. Jerry only reaffirmed the 2117 number. It is I that said 1%. I understand what you guys are saying and I am not misleading anyone other then stating the fact that on 2117 1969 Camaros had an M22. Do we agree on that?

The difference is your making it a selling point, when infact it was not possible for ALL camaros to get the 22. Your car type (Z28) is in the 20000 category.
100% of the 20,000 got the 302. Which make it about 8-9% off all the camaros made. About the same % as got the 22 in the cars possible category. Probably a standard production ratio.

Kinda no, you have to consider that 1969 Camaros includes 6 cyl cars which didn't get the M22. I believe what Rick stated was the clearest explanation. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/beers.gif
Steve Shauger
12-11-2008, 08:06 PM
How about this as a compromise:
Of the cars that the M22 was available in 8-9 percent received it(z28, COPO's L78/L89 & Z28)
Also out of total production of 243,000 camaros only 2117 cars were equipped with the M22 or .87%
The horse has been beat to death on this one. Both views are valid, so lets move on. BTW Rob congratulation on decision to keep them both.
