Man thank god for generator's! We are not going to have power until Wednesday. Let's just say I have never seen so much Ice and I have lived in NY all my life. We lost power early Friday morning 12:30 am I think. It sounded like someone shooting a gun outside my house. This was the tree's breaking from the Ice load. So Friday morning I go to use my generator that I bought in March of 2008 so it is 9 month's old and only has 3 hours on it. Well it doesn't work. So I spent most of the day taking it apart and found a bad capacitor on a circuit board. I call the company and the circuit board will be here next Thursday. So I got up this morning at 5:00 am with my house at 45 degree's and went to the Home Depot to wait in line for a generator. I was able to get three for family member's. I spent all day hooking up every one's generators. So now I am going to just relax with a couple of Beer's. I will take pictures tomorrow. You guy's will be amazed!

glad your up and running sitting around with no power for a solid day sucks when it is cold ...we lost power yesterday in a big wind storm and I had 3 gensets going as well at diff houses...then the power came on and the next door neighbors had a stove malfunction and the house torched big time.
I back feed a honda 6500kw into the house and keep all systems online, is running the christmas lights also to much? http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I have a question what are you guys runing your generators on I have a Generac 7550 EXL surge 13000.00 watt IT runs on gas so what I have beeen doing is store 4 5 gal cans of gas every 6 months I use the gas In the one of the cars and refill the cans with new gas I have been playing around with trying to hook up a natural gas set up for this generator but have not found a system that will work
the generator it self is great it says it will run 10.5 hours on 6 gal of gas it will power most of the house with no problems it just if you are out of power for a week or to I think runing on gas will end up leaveing high and dry

Jason, we got a good deal of black ice down here in Dutchess on the Taconic Parkway. I have New York State gas and electric so needless to say I use a generator frequently. I have a 10000 watt generator that I keep in my walk out basement - hook up is outside a short distance under my deck. I keep gas in it with Stabil, however about every 3 months I take it outside, run it for a while with a load on it. -- http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/beers.gif

I went to Maine last Friday on rt 7 through Troy over to rt 9 and rt 101 through southern VT and NH. Troy had no power and therefore no traffic lights which was a real mess! further east was ever more of a mess, it looked like a bomb went off, with trees draped over the roads and lines down everywhere. Coming home last night on 87 I passed 4 fleets of electrical service vehicles. A state of emergency was declared and they have crews coming in from as far away as Ohio. Power isn't expected to be back to everybody in NH until Thursday or Friday. It really goes to show how brittle our power systems can be, as it doesn't take much to cause big problems!

Jason, my daughter called the power company this morning to get a restoration time and they said it would be Thursday at 8 AM. We were not happy about that. It was quite a surprise that around 12:30 the power went back on on my side of the mountain. Because we had the generator going my daughter and son-in-law spent a lot of time here where it was comfortable. I have a diesel unit that runs the whole house and the electric heated apartment. Sure used a lot of diesel but it was well worth it. I hope they get you on pretty soon. The guys who were working on our section were from Elmira. With all the trees on the wires they did not have an easy job.

I run a Winco 9500 Watt Industrial gas generator which handles my house and garage nicely. The problem here in our part of New Hampshire was you couldn't get gas. The few stations that had power also had wicked looong lines with a few reported fist fights erupting! My sons in Rollinsford and Milton, NH still didn't have power this morning. No Power - Good Cuddling!!!
