1969-1972 Milan Dragway Photos

Does anyone have a source for Milan track photography from the late 60s-early 70s? My 427 Chevelle was evidently run there on a regular basis for the first three years of its life before it was taken off the street.

Also - what class(es) would a 427/425 Chevelle have run in?

I am not sure NHRA had a class for that set up. Maybe A or B Stock in the old days or SS/D like Barry Musser ran. AHRA is probably different. Not sure how competitive a 69 425 horse chevelle would be today. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/dunno.gif

My old class guide has the 427/425hp Chevelle in it, but I can't remember what the original factor was...it woulda jumped around there for a couple years, but I think they eventually landed in SS/D & A/S...I belive it's a still a natural "A" car today, which is a horrible fit for it...if I'm not mistaken, Borgstrom now runs his L72 Chevelle now in AA/S...?

Thanks guys, I figured that knowing which class it would have run in would help me sift through pictures. I'm gonna guess the oval port 454 or 396 would be the *smarter* route to take in a '70 Chevelle...A with the LS6 or B with the L78 is still gonna be heavily Camaro/Nova, which have had their way with those classes the last several years...no way to legally "Deal-A-Meal" a Chevelle that light I'd say?

I think the 450 hp rating from Chevy also hurts a little. Some 1971 chevelles run well in SS/EA maybe because the right people are messing with those lower hp 454's. Like John Armstrong! I think the guys name is Bruce Riley that runs a real strong 454. Is that 425 horse in that year? J. Armstrong is the smartest big block engine builder in the country.....case closed! His stats speak for themselves. First Chevrolet Super Stocker in the eights. The other racers that use him in Stock and Super Stock out qualify just about everyone in their respective classes.

The original owner of my 68 Camaro ss black on black Barry
raced at the Milan drag strip all the time back in the 60s.
If you go to Talbot Racing (windsor)web site under racing history you will see Barry Maskery the owner of my 68 Camro with his white 67 Camaro at the Milan drag strip off the line. Gives me goose bumps everytime I see that pic.also Grumpys camaro and others.

I am looking for anyone who might have photos or video from the mid 70's. My brother raced at Milan Dragway, his name was John Dennis. Would have been like between '72 and '77. He ran what I guess you would call street class. He ran a '69 big block Camaro that was primed many colors. I have one pic with an et of 11.06 on the window. If you have pics, vid or just knew him please send me an email. [email protected]. I am trying to find anything I can for his Daughter who never knew him. Any help is much appreciated. ya like my 1968 427 black Camaro ran 10;45 and did race
on this drag strip orig owner was Barry maskey. also ran a white 1967 Camaro, and an opel. Would be nice if someone rememberd

Have you tryed Mike the photo guy from the milan website?He may have some info?Also maybe try yellowbullet.com I know this is not the best web site for some but they have a lot of old photos from the 60`s-70 from milan and detroit dragway and some old timers that post on there.

I have a friend, Knorbert Knorr who raced yearly at milan from 72 0n to current racing, he runs a 68 dealer delivered Hemi Dart, I believe they built 55 as they also did the same with 68 Barracudas, they came black with the front clip flat black due to dipped fenders and a glass hood with the large center split scoop. Rear wheel openings were also opened up to accept slicks, no back seat, lexan side windows with no mechanisms, the window went up and down with a seat belt you would pull down and snap at the bottom of the door. Knorberts car has approx 11000 miles on it, all at the track and an occasional clandestine weekend street race. Coming from the actual dealer I think it allowed him to run stock automatic class. They went from the factory to final assembly at (depending who you talk to) Demming Engineering or Hurst Performance. They were referred to as the "Elephant Dart", the only cars that I am aware of that came from the dealer with no title, Bill Of Sale only, no warranty, and had decals affixed that stated "this car not intended for street use, racing purposes only" At any rate, I will give him a call as I am sure his camera happy wife will have a stack of photos for every season at Milan. Last I knew it was not for sale, but things change so who knows?
