A local forum was discussing some oddball options on early Camaro. The ski rack was brought up. Was it a roof mount or was it a trunk lid mount similar to the C3 Corvette?
A local guy has an original bench seat 1st gen Camaro.

I think it was a roof mount.. Big Steve, SYC Member 68l30, I think has one that might be NOS for his Camaro. Cool, unique and hard to find option...

Trunk Lid mount. There have been a couple of NOS ones for sale on ebay, but that was about 7-8 years ago.
Dealer Accessory item.

I've seen a picture of a 69 camaro that was ordered by a skier brand new & if i re-call it was white with black stripes & a black vinyl top with white stripes & a rack on the roof with ski's.
I always thought optional Ski racks came in two possible generic formations.
One attached to the already mounted steel tube constructed roof or deck lid luggage carrier.
The other was an easily demountable 2-pc.unit,not needing a luggage carrier at all,but would fit on any vehicle so long as it had roof top side rain gutters.

I recall the picture from Michael Lamm's book on the Camaro. The car was Jean Claude Killy's and had an integrated trunk spoiler also, very cool. Killy became a spokesman for Chevrolet after winning all three olympic events in 1968.

I have the dealerbook for 68... let me dig it out and scan it...
They are not unique to the Camaro they are the ones which attach to the standard luggage rack. They have a rubber tube which holds the skis in a large jaw clamp.

Yep, Ive got a NOS set of the roof mount racks..They clamp on to the drip rail on each side and come with a set of keys to lock up your skis.I've had mine resting on top of my car but can't imagine what my drip rail molding would look like if I tightened them down... http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/eek.gif

Chrome rally wheels and snow tires. Snow, salt and chrome wheels, not a good combo. Nice they did up a Z/28 for him and an Endura car as well. What was the color combo on it?
What is the story on the rear spoiler?

I did notice it, but I am thought maybe I just didn't pay attention enough on other 69's. But it is different, right?

rusted out and crushed?
hard to say
I can't think of a worse combination for a car to drive in the snow
no torque 302 with a 4 speed with no weight in the rear = stuck on level ground
Wonder if they outfitted that with either liquid tire chain, engine block coolant or an oil pan heater too for JCK?
His name/image was widely associated w/many Chevrolet endorsements back in the late 1960's to mid 1970's.
