Looks like a '69 Camaro headrest bucket seat. Either Steve was a huge dude or that seat is mounted high up off the floor! On second look, he must have been pretty tall as his shoulder blades are up on the headrest!

You can never deny how great these pictures are. But you know you really can't say enough good things about the relationship that you and your family have with Chris. I have heard some of the stories (such as bringing the car to Vettefest this year) and am sure that your dad is beside himself with the amount of kindness that has been demonstrated by Chris. In my opinion this speaks volumes for both sides. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/worship.gif

the car ran better with the single 4. he didnt have enough cam for it. he ran Unit Stock back then which required them to use stock type cams. yes the car is still around. now owned by Chris Short.

apparently i sparked quite an interest in the blue LS6 car.that car was sold without the LS6 motor. it had an E.T. shop built 427 with a super t-10 trans with doug nash gears . it had the E.T. Shop lettered on the doors in gold leaf and pit crew: Nick and Ray somewhere on the rear 1/4. either before the rear wheel or after. my dad doesnt quite remember.the saying on the trunk was Freds wifes favorite saying. they all had crew shirts too.check it out !!! http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggthumpup.gif

Jeff,
Was that Dan Mamsen's Yenko in the pictures at the Arlington show? When I saw your dad's pictures at the recent ChevyVette Fest there was a vintage picture of an orange '69 Yenko with your dad's Yenko. He said it was Mamsen's Camaro. I thought it was my car that was owned by Mark Janowiak in Carpentersville in the mid '70's. Your dad remembered Mark's Yenko and said it had been to his garage many times. Great pictures! Thanks for posting.

Jeff,
Its great you dad saved everything including the pictures! Both orange Yenkos (Dan's and Mark's) came from the same collector in Janesville, WI. He had 70+ cars back in the '70s. Dan's was the yenko that Bill Hunter bought new and blew the motor the first day he owned it. He traded it in the next day for the yellow Yenko Camaro he still owns today. Any pics of Mark's Yenko Camaro from back then? Thanks again,
Mark

Thompson Chevy was on the corner of Addison & St. Charles in Villa Park.
That was my hometown dealer, that I spent many hours at and bought three cars & many parts & memorabilia from. That soon became Larry Roesch Chevrolet, but then moved to thier Bensenville location shortly thereafter.
I think Payton Chevrolet is where Gary Langs Auto group is today.

for those of you who dont know who Steve Johnson is, Steve used to race a Pro Mod car in the mid to late 90's. the first was a firebird, then to a 92 ZR1 corvette and then to a 57 chevy. the cars were owned by Dave Simpson who had quite the collection of rare muscle cars before....well, getting in some hot water. this was his first car. 75 camaro that was street raced heavily back then. Steve also worked for Nitrous Oxide and now i think is the Director of Motorsports for Edelbrock. he helped them design their current N2O systems. he is a Nitrous wizard...... http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggthumpup.gif

after building Steves camaro, John Rice built an all 'glass 55 chevy to compete in Top Sportsman. he built this car for specifically one purpose. to beat Rob Vandergriff in the '57 chevy Thundercraft.............John was into everything from an alcohol dragster to a '55 chevy 9 sec. street car to turbo nitroused bikes. he died tragically in a street race on his motorcycle. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif

That '55 has some serious engine setback! I remember it back in the Eighties but didn't realize the engine was SO FAR back. I love it! I imagine the hood scoop is probably empty. I made it to EVERY Super Chevy Indy event back in the Eighties and remember looking at the unrestored '69 Yenko that is the main subject of this thread. I really like that Butternut Yellow Yenko and spent a lot of time looking at the car. It was great seeing the car still doing what it was built to do for it's entire life!
