View Full Version : 12 BOLT STAMP DATES VS COWL TAG BUILD DATES ?

I am looking at purchasing a Camaro that the owner says is all number matching. The questions is the cowl tag date is 06C and the 12 bolt is cast March 14 and is date stamped 06/18. This would mean the 12 bolt was stamped the same week. Is this possible?

I would say it is possible considering one of our 70 L78 Novas has all three driveline components stamped within a few days if each other and in the same time frame as the cowl tag. This is a late car, first week of July....and all 3 items match the POP so I know it's right. I'm sure the Camaro experts will advise accordingly.

On Grady's 69 Nova the cowl tag is 11A and the axle is 1105. #'s car.
The trim tag date is not always representative of assy line build date. Bodies were often batched together with similar options and colors etc. for the assy line build.
Very possible your OK.

The June cars have all sorts of dates, due to the strike. Things sat around for a while which might explain the difference in the cast date vs. the assembly date of you 12 bolt. One of the CRG guys would be able to let you know if they have seen similar rear ends aroud the same time frame.
It's entirely possible, and was done amongst other vehicles plants as well.
I've seen many Chevelles built with a rearend assembly date scenario like yours,as well as a few engines & transmissions too.

I see no issues with the dates you posted.

I assume itīs not a 1969 Camaro because of the 06C on the cowltag ?

Tony,
This is possible. Depends on the ratio and how much in demand it was during that time in production. I would like to see the axle stamping to know for sure. I can check it with the thousands that I have in my CHP data base. Has to be a '68 car.....right? Or 1967? Can't be 1969.
