Hey guys,
I'm looking at a 64 Malibu SS that's for sale and I have a couple of questions about the codes on the trim tag (mostly paint color).
Here's the TT info:
10C 5-2
64-5837 BF 359
Trim 770 LLL Paint
A37 B70 2324

The car appears to mostly original paint (Maroon) with original Fawn bucket seat interior. From most of my books, the color code should be some sort of 900 series numbers, not letters.... what am I missing?
The other codes are straight forward but what is the 5-2 on the top right and the 2324 on the lower right of the TT?
Any help would be appreciated......
Thanks!! Charlie

Charlie,
The 5837 confirms it to be an SS Sport Coupe. Some plants used letter codes for paint in '64. The LLL indicates Palomar Red (which is maroon) lower body, upper body and wheels. The fact that the wheels were body color indicates that the car was ordered with blackwall tires. Wheels were painted black when a "combination" or white walls & full wheel covers were ordered.
I don't know about the other mystery numbers.
