I always find this interesting, Usually people in the Muscle Car scene found thier love for them by the first ride they had, This is mine a 1971 R/T Challenger tripple green 383 mag 355 gears, I grew up in Topeka Kansas and got this car for my 14th birthday, you got your license at 14 back then http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/eek.gif I really could not imagine that now... I spent alot of time street racing and crusing Topeka Blvd in that, never the fastest but sure went through tires, Lets see some first ride pics or first love I should say.

1980 VW Rabbit. Got it at 16 years old. Savings from my paper route. Figured out that was stupid so I then got a '70 Barracuda from the original owner.

1969 Chevy Nova originally a 307 NON SS car. I bought the car when I was 15. Yes, I did go out and drive it once before I officially had my license which was very stupid!! Especially what I did to the car, 327 motor punched 30 over, mildy built w/Edelbrock Performer Cam, Performer intake, Holley 600, Blackjack Headers thru Sonic Turbo Mufflers.. Also had a turbo 350 trans with a big ole' Hurst Indy Floor Shifter.
Everyone thought it was a 4 speed.. That tranny was awesome. I put a B&M shift kit in it and it would always chirp the tires from 1st to 2nd gear no matter how hard you were on it. If you were really hard on it, it would break the tires loose and lay a nice stretch of rubber..
I later put a Nitrous Power Shot system on it which really woke it up and installed 4:11 gears... The car screamed at this point!! I did a lot of street racing in high school with it. My buddy had a 72 Plymouth Scamp with a built 360 and Nitrous. He and I had the fastest cars in our high school at the time, hands down!!
Car ran in the 12s depending on traction. Here are some pictures of her.. She wasn't real pretty but I was a teenage kid, I didn't care I just wanted to go fast and make lots of noise!! She is no longer, I pulled the motor and trans about 9 years ago and sold the shell. The body and floors were rough on the car. It had always been up north and seen some winters... What a fun car though!!

White with a Gold stripe down the center, 400 gone...455 out of a 70 Grand Prix. 4 Speed 4:33 gears...Rally I's I cahnged to Keystones...Still had the Ram Air tub...
I remember I sold the car with tri power on it...I forgot to give the guy the Ram Air tub [4 bbl] went he picked up the car...
I literally chased the guy down the street to give it to him...do you know what a real, genuine 67 GTO ram air tub is worth?

I will ad my second love, I really liked this one, the Challenger was lost due to me moving out of my dads house and with my mom, (nothing like using a tool on your kid) I tried to buy my Challenger back from the guy who had purchased it, when I pulled into his driveway it was about 4 feet shorter than it use to be, seems he was Drag racing on Topeka Blvd and a car pulled out in front of him. So I found this
http://i144.photobucket.com/albums/r194/3kidsnotime/scan0011.jpg
1972 orange/black 442 with an automatic, bucket seats and orange SSII wheels. This was in 1972 and I shared the car with my mom. When I left for college, I ended up with the car my sophomore year. Of course, I put cherry bomb mufflers on it.

1972 Nova bought in 1978...originally a 6 banger and powerglide. Went the 402 big block and Turbo trans route...sold it to the kid across the street who the first day he had it...almost wrapped it around a pole in front of the high school.
The emblems and SS rear panel came from Eddie Hopper and Cone Chevrolet's parts inventory. I had to look long and hard to find the rear panel.
The 12 bolt rear came from a 1969 Z28 that was one of my mechanic friends when I worked at Hardin Olds...whose son DID wrap the fathom green Z28 around a pole http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif
Pictures were taken at the Car Craft Street Machine Nationals West (at the same show as Nova Joe's way cool Nova was at. Notice the Street Machine Nationals West sticker on the wing vent). 'My car' wanted to be 'his car' when it grew up! http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

It has been rolled over on its side, vent windows knocked out, door mirrors ripped off, the 305 was grenaded, the rallyes that were on it were sold, and all of the AC vents and speakers were cut out of the dash with a sawzall!!! My wife and I bought a 69 RS/Z-28 Hugger orange with Black Houndstooth for 1800.00. She drove it to work every day and I would street race it on weekends and tear the hell out of it. Sold it 2 years later for 2000.00 and thought that was easy I am going to do this some more. And so the journey started or a nightmare as she likes to call it.

Had 79K on the odometer when I bought it. Paid $1500 for it. Already had a safety inspection, all I had to buy was insurance and license plates.
Even came with an extra pair of SS wheels (same date code as what was on the car) with Firestone Town and Country snows mounted on them.

There were no Camaro's or Chevelle's when I got my first car. Me and my friend Kenny bought a '55 Ford when we were in 7th grade.
Primed it flat black with a $9.99 paint gun - buckets, console and vacuum gauge from a late model Grand Prix and '60 Dodge taillights.
Solid welded in a 430 Lincoln mated to a 3 speed, pulled off the front bumper and cranked in a half dozen spring blocks and terrorized
the back roads late at night for weeks till we blew it up!
Gave it to the local high school shop class.
Moved on to a white/white '57 Chevy convertible with a red gut. Hate to tell you what happened to that!!

My first car was a 1970 Mercury Montego MX. It was my granfathers car.302 and a c4trans. My twin brother and I had to share it. If we both were doing things we would drive are mothers 1970 Buick Electra 225. Later my brother bought him self a 1976 Cutlass. I gave him some money for his Half of the Mercury. I installed a cam heads headers in the Mercury for the fist time. The cam was 500 lift so with a stock gear it wasn't much from stop but on a roll it ran pretty good. The funny thing is we always wanted to moms Buick when we had a street race. I know it sounds funny But this was originally my dads fathers car. So it was always has been in the family also. My brother and I were known for racing it. I remember racing alot of different cars in that car from a 70 sport fury to a kid with a 67 mustang 289 fastback. That kid came up to the Texaco Station I worked at with open headers Saying I'm tired of hearing about that Buick. I raced him Three times on the frontage road and beat him all 3 time he was mad. You think about the things you did and realize you got away with allot http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif Well Back to the Mercury after 5 c4 trans missions I had enough I sold the Mercury bought a 1979 Trans Am Smokey and the Bandit Black Even had a CB in it. Then a 1970 L-46 Corvette 4SPD http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/3gears.gif THen the 1969 Z/28 I still have 22 years Later. Hugger orange Born with drive line.
My Cortez Silver 1972 Chevelle SS that was sold new @ Fencl-Tufo Chevrolet.
Brought it home on this day in Feb.1980 after paying $800 for it.Only 33K miles, but the body was worse.
Restored it,drove the snot out of it,then sold it years later at ChevyVetteFest at Arlington Park racetrack in Fall 84.

This sweet thing right here.... a '77 Vette.
I mean 1977 Chevette. Not the regular ol' puny 1.4L 4-cylinder, but the RALLY Chevette. It was 1.6L of pure raw power. I had the cheap $20 power booster amp for the radio, speakers tossed in the hatch, genuine imitation fuzzy sheepskin seat covers, and real 4-lug Cragar S/S rims with 50-series tires in the back and 60-series in the front.
http://i133.photobucket.com/albums/q65/nova_ss396/1977ChevetteRallywithCragers.jpg
After a couple years of that excitement, I bought my first Nova, and never looked back.
1972 Nova 4-door

Moved on to a '72 Nova 2-door

... and then some mid 70's Camaros, more Novas, a truck, Suburbans...

Hand me down from my mom then sister to me. 1976 burnt orange Plymouth Volare with a 318. Decently quick....burned rubber better in reverse. 2 things made it the happening car of my crowd.
1. My Dad represented Pioneer, so I had 3 way 6x9s in the rear, 6" door mounts, dash mounted tweeters, EQ with lights and 3 amps. Great stereo, but before the advent of the subwoofer.
If i played Rush loud,,,,,,,,,,,,,,Geddy made your ears melt.....but no distortion. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
2. Magnetic police cherry with cigarette lighter cord...
Perfect for this car as they used Volares and Aspens for cop cars.......everyone loved it ...except the Cops who busted us and took it away.
When we weren't pulling people over or nailing people making out, I used to come up to parties and do a 180 with the lights on and watch everyone scatter http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/naughty.gif

My first was a 1974 Vega GT. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/no.gif My mother overheard my uncle asking another uncle if he could buy the seats out of the old Vega parked on the side of the house.
My mother inquired if the car ran, it did and she gave him $300 bucks and I was riding. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/beers.gif
I was only able to keep it running for 6 months as it was on it's last leg way before I got it.
My dad had a 1969 Kingswood Estate Wagon he was trying to sell, I begged and pleaded to buy it to use the powertrain, but he said no. Turned out a guy interested in buying heard me complaining about wanting the engine and trans and threw in a 350/350 drive train he had with nothing to put it in.

My first buy was a '78 Chevy Malibu Classic Landau Coupe with a 350 4 barrel purchased from the original owner's daughter. The owner was elderly, so the car was in good shape. It had oxidized silver paint, grey landau roof and the red custom cloth interior complete with the plastic that turned from red to purple with sun exposure. The car had super cold A/C, gauges (most of which worked, 'cept the clock of course-it was correct twice per day). The car ran pretty good for its time and sounded extra mean with the aircleaner on the 350 inverted! It was perfect for cruising with your left arm resting on the top of the heavily-padded door panel.
I bought the car for extra cheap with a rod knock, which turned out to be an errant heat riser valve - replaced the valve and the car ran like new. Deciding to pop for "cool white letter radials" from the local warehouse club turned out to be a bad idea for the winter, when the combo of a light rear end, no traction and V8 torque forced me to abandon the car at the bottom of the hill we lived on. I added a dual exhaust and the catalytic converter "disappeared" at that time. The car was a bit of a letdown compared to the other two cars I really wanted but my dad wouldn't allow me to buy: a rusty 1970 Chevelle SS454 4 speed in gold (don't remember whether it was an LS5 or LS6) and the bondo-bucket medium blue 1968 Mustang 302 hardtop coupe. Yeah, and the medium blue with white vinyl roof 1970 Buick GS455 Stage 1 in the next neighborhood was out of the question as well - boy, what a great test drive, though! I almost side-swipped an entire row of parked cars during that test drive....
I got my share of tickets and minor fender-benders in the tamer Malibu anyway. And the car laid rubber (the car had a posi, a fact I repeated to anyone willing to listen back then). While not the fastest car back then, it beat many a Maverick, Vega, Duster and Datsun B210 in street contests. And it scored a draw against my buddy's '68 Coronet 440 with a 318! Of course I added a Pioneer Supertuner and a pair of Jensen coaxial 6X9 speakers in the rear deck. My two younger brothers each ended up having their time with the car, and I eventually sold it with a seized motor, "Lawrence of Arabia" drooping headliner and a cheap voke-school repaint job in gray while my youngest brother was at Purdue. My dad wanted it gone from his front lawn and was going to have it hauled away by the local junk yard. I got $560 in the end for it, along with the countless memories of cruising in it.

Girlfriend's dad owned a car repair business and serviced a car that was owned by a older lady that was retiring from teaching. This lady told my girlfriend's dad she was retiring and going to sell her car. I was made aware of this and went over to look at the car in her garage. Fell in love with it, offered $250 and it became mine. Original one owner car that still had plastic on the seatcovers. This was back in the late 60s. A "barn find" before the word was ever created. 1969 Chevy Impala, 2 door,327/ 4 bbl-powerglide and ice cold A/C.
Installed dual exhaust. Boy was that thing a chick magnet....NOT!!!!
I bought it from the original owner with 60K or so miles. It took me over a week, to clean the interior trim from the nicotine stains. The trim looked like it had yellow trim, instead of chrome from all of the smoking.
Looked pretty good once I finished with it. Drove it for over a year and sold it for more than I paid. Great cruiser!
Went to the drive-in and snuck 4 buddies in the trunk, along with six other people inside. The car was basically bottomed out and I still remember the noise of the car scaping when I drove over a small bump.
I've got picture somewhere, just need to dig them up.

First car was a 67 Chevelle SS auto with a tired small block. After graduation, I switched to a 69 2 bolt 427, .060 11.75 TRW's, 858 squareports, L-88 cam, Edelebrock Torker, 780 Holley followed by a reverse valvebody TH400, 4.10s w/Moroso brute posi unit. I got serious into the street racing scene and broke alot of parts, but also won a little money. The car became a drain on the wallet as life got on so I sold it. I bought a 68 Camaro in Aug 1971 for $1850.00 from Hickman Motors in St. John's Newfoundland. I began my working career in January 1971 and had student loans so the purchase of a car was put off until the loans were repaid and I could get some credit. What attracted me to the car was the color combo,Corvette Bronze with Black and Houndstooth deluxe interior. The car was manual steering and brakes, but had the 275/327 and a powerglide, My job required a lot of driving and I averaged 700 miles a week over the next 18 months racking up 50,000 miles.
When I bought it,it had 39,000 miles and was still on Warranty. the day I was supposed to pick it up the saleman phoned and said the engine was bad and asked if I still wanted the car. My dad convinced me that since it was going to be rebuilt under warranty I would be benefiting from a used car with a fresh engine.
Not only used as a daily driver for business, the car was under constant modification. First the goodyear Polyglass F70-14 whitewalls and soon followed by Keystone Mags. The following spring Headers were added along with a Holly Carb. I used to drag race it on the weekends between May and September,so the car got quite a workout. In the fall of 72 I swapped the PG for a TH400 out of a wrecked cop car. I could not keep Ujoints in the car after that. With 90,000 miles on the clock I sold it in Mar 73 for $1650.00 and bought a brand new Duster 340. About a year later I spotted it on a AMC dealers lot, looking very tired with an asking price of $650.00. I asked a fellow who worked there what the bottom line was and he said I could have it for $400.00. I almost bought it back.
I am now in a search for a 68 Camaro, painted Corvette Bronze with the Black/Houndstooth deluxe Interior. It has to be that color and all other engine combos and equipment will be considered.

Once I figured out how to do that I beat the handle area down with a hammer and trowled some bondo I bought over the hole. The very first time I tried to drive it I backed into the side of the garage.........Bill S

Mine was a 1929 Model A rumble seat coupe that I only drove around the yard. I traded it to a 1976 Harley that I kept for two days before trading to a 1938 Chevy 2 door Sedan street rod. It was the first one that I got to drive on the street.

Mine was handed down to me from my father. A Hemi Orange 1971 Challenger R/T 383 Magnum Slap Stick with the orange plaid and black interior. Some kind of one-leg freeway gear in the rear. Wide chrome molding around the front grill. Street raced the crap out of it and beat all my friends. My father later took it back and traded it in on a brand new 1978 Z/28. I then bought a used 1966 Buick Skylark with the 340ci.

assuming it is a 305 (They didn't allow auto trans cars back then I recall), I will have to say that it was delivered to Sutliff Chevrolet in Harrisburg PA because the other 3 Camaros were L98's, and my friend Mike Marsh bought the black L98 the was delivered to Stewart Chevrolet in Colma CA ... the two Pontiacs WERE LB9's
actually I thought SCCA banned the 1LE, maybe they were legal for 1988, but they were not for 89 and later ... I owned Brian Simos black 89 No Fear IROC that Boris Said drove at the 89 Runoffs ...
back to the thread, my 1st car was a 1928 Ford Model A leatherback ... I got it when I was 14 ... it was 39 years old at the time

Well I figured I would post in this thread. I had many cars from when I was 13-16 but I don't count them since I never drove them further than around the block. Here are 3 of the cars I drove throughout high school. My black 67 Chevelle Malibu (that I still have) pictured in the center. I put a 355, 4 speed, and a 12 bolt in it in high school with an NOS powershot setup on it and ruled the streets. My daily driver was the green 4 door 66 Chevelle on the right side of the pic bought it wrecked sitting in a grage since 1974 with 76K on it, fixed it and drove the hell out of it. The green 72 4 door on the left I bought for $400 and it came from Georgia and I drove that on occasion and gave it to my sister to drive during her high school years. It had 350, 4 bbl, turbo 350, 12 bolt, F41, a/c, tilt, sport wheel, power everything and discs. The other black 67 and the blue Buick are my friends cars. The rather dark picture of the 2 cars on the street is me in the Chevelle vs my friends 66 SBC powered Buick on spray pictured above on 84th street in Philly. My last good daily driver was a 1990 Mustang 5.0 hatch with the desired black black color combo. Bought it for $1000 in 2002 and drove it until 2006 racking up almost 285K miles. It went 14.0's all day and took a real hard 4 years of a beating before I sold it.

The car I drove the most as a 17 year old was the 1974 GTO, Bucaneer Red with matching interior, rubber mat (not fancy carpet here), floor shift auto on the floor and a 12" steering wheel, she had a warmed over 350, Holley high-rise intake and 4bbl carb and a shift kit. Mine never looked this good, but here is a good shot of a stock appearing car.

My first car (65 Mustang 2+2)after it had morphed several times. Picture was taken in front of my girlfriends house (now wife) in 77 or 78. I bought it in 1970 while a junior in high school.
Originally a 289 with 3 speed, but was a Boss 302 with toploader and a 9" out of a Boss 429 car running 5.13 gears.
The rear end was bought at Jim's World of Speed after I saw it on the floor for sale.

Jumped on my bike, chased it to the next intersection, got the phone # and bought it the next weekend for $1600. I had been working the car wash for 2 years prior to this to save the money for when the right car came along. I have some pictures somewhere that I should scan.

When I was 14, my dad helped me purchase a 1971 Plymouth Satellite Sebring Plus with a simple 318. By the time I was old enough to drive it, I saved up enough cash to get a cheap paint job, Roadrunner hood and some stickers to make it look like a Roadrunner. Unfortunately, over the years, I was away and it took a bad beating from the elements but I still have it. I just recently towed it into my garage and will hopefully start working on it soon.
This is the only pic I have uploaded at the moment. The Challenger was my dad's which my mom gave to me when he passed away 8 years ago and the rest are of my Satellite. It was a Tawny Brown when I got it and I wanted a subtle color at the time. I'm not sure what I'm going to do with either car at the moment. It just takes time and money and, unfortunately, I usually only have one or the other.

First one was a white 70 Camaro with houndstooth, column shift, tilt wheel and more rust than paint. I bought it with paper route money when I was 14. It never saw the road and I sent it to the boneyard after pressure from my dad and step mom back in about 1990.
My first driver was a dark green metallic 1970 LeMans Sport with the Pontiac 350 2bbl, m21 4 speed and 3.23 limited slip.

My first was a 1989 Turbo Trans Am we bought at my great uncles Pontiac dealer. My dad planned on keeping it for himself and getting me a GTA that looked just like it. Well, a divorce insued and the biatch tried to take the turbo. I ended up with it so she wouldn't get it. Never and I repeat Never give a 15 year old a car that fast. I street raced that car to no end and traded it with about 80,000 miles worn slam out. Bone stock ran 8.6 in the 1/8 mile @ 96mph wheel hopping the entire track with idle launch. Would love to have it back.
